FIRST CLASS | ESCORTED COACH & RAIL TOUR: Travel south on Taiwan's modern high speed rail system and explore the vibrant city of Kaohsiung, the dramatic coastline of southern Taiwan, and the fascinating historic city of Tainan.

This 3-day Taiwan group tour focuses on the city of Kaohsiung and southern Taiwan.

Transfer from Taipei via high-speed rail to Kaohsiung, the second largest city in the country and hub of the south. Visit the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, and the Pier-2 Art Centre, which reinvigorates an abandoned warehouse as a modern gallery showcasing Taiwan’s best and brightest. Then hop a ferry to Cijing Island to see the awe-inspiring Tianhou Temple, before a bicycle rickshaw takes you to explore the old streets. In the evening, visit Liuhe Night Market, letting your taste buds explore the complex flavours of one of Asia’s great foodie destinations.

Kenting shows off southern Taiwan at its most scenic. Visit the Eluanbi Lighthouse at the country’s southern tip. See the ‘cat’s nose and head,’ and the dramatic limestone formations of Longpan Park. On your final scheduled day, visit the former Dutch fort of Chikan Lou, and Anping Fort, also built by the Europeans. The Dutch were driven out of Taiwan in 1661, and today, Chikan Lou supports two beautiful Chinese towers. Explore the old city of Tainan, before returning toTaipei in time for an evening in the capital.

Day 3

Kaoshiung to Taipei

After breakfast transfer to Tainan City to visit Chikanlou, a historical building originally built by the Dutch in 1652. Continue to the Koxinga Ancestral Shrine, a traditional and elegant family shrine which also showcases some relics of daily life in old Tainan city. Next, visit Anping Fort, another 17th-century Dutch landmark, originally called Fort Zeelandia. The fort was renamed Anping when the Dutch were driven out of Taiwan in 1661. Take a wander around the Anping Tree House, the original warehouse for the British trading company Tait and Company, now a beguiling partially ruined site.
