A truly unique and different experience. Stay overnight at a traditional Buddhist temple and spend time living the life of a typical Buddhist monk at the Golgusa Temple near Gyeongju.


Worship before the image of Buddha at dawn in zen-style, It is 4:00 a.m. and the power of the cosmos is waking. You awake to the sound of the moktak – wooden block- which greets the new day and proceed to the temple to read Buddhist scriptures with the sanga – Buddhist family – for meditation. You will experience life at a traditional Buddhist temple, the Golgulsa Temple(Stone Buddha Temple), attracting truth seekers from around the world. Located at the foot of Mt. Hamwol, Golgulsa is the only temple cave in Korea. The temple was built out of solid rock during the 6th century by Saint Gwang Yoo and some accompanying monks, and was designed according to the architectural structure of India.

On the top of the temple stands a sculpture of the Maya Tathagata Buddha, which is Golgulsa's main attraction, and surrounding the sculpture are twelve rock caves used as a prayer sanctuary. Seven of the twelve rock cave sanctuaries are still standing today. Another main attraction is the Gwaneum Cave, which is the largest sanctuary of the seven still existing caves. Depart by train from Seoul and transfer to the temple where, on arrival, after a brief orientation meeting, you attend a service with the resident monks. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the temple. It should be noted that accommodation is basic and the food vegetarian.

The following morning, attend another service followed by a Tea Ceremony taught by the monks. Later you visit to the temple comes to an end as you return to Seoul by train.

Seoul

Pick up at your hotel in Seoul in the afternoon and drive to Geumsunsa Temple for an immersive Korean Buddhist experience. Geumsunsa Temple is surrounded by nature in Mt. Bukhansan National Park. On arrival, take a brief orientation and temple tour and then begin your temple stay program which includes making 108 beads, an evening ceremony with bell striking and 108 prostrations. Enjoy a traditional Korean temple dinner.

Day 2

Seoul

Early morning wake up call followed by a morning Buddhist ceremony with Seon meditation. Then have breakfast and begin Ulyeok (communal work). Afterwards enjoy meditation in the forest followed by a tea ceremony. Your stay will conclude in the late morning with a closing ceremony. Pick up at the temple and return to your hotel in Seoul.
