Strictly speaking, Langkawi is made up of 99 islands. However, the name for the most part refers to the main island, 30 kilometres off the coast of western Malaysia, north of Penang. It is truly a tropical paradise because of not only its wonderful beaches and turquoise sea but also because of the beauty of the interior which is scenic, lush, mountainous containing jungle and rushing waterfalls. Langkawi was given World Geopark status by UNESCO as an ecological gem. The island is made up of protected coves with many containing excellent beach resorts.
During your stay here, nothing is planned but the list of activities, apart from the usual beach, sun and sea, is diverse. Diving here is first class. There is an international class golf course. You can take a tour to the interior of the island and take the cable car to the top of one of the peaks to enjoy the spectacular views. There is jungle trekking, bird watching, jet skiing, cruising and much more. An excellent choice of restaurants is available.
