Prices From:
US$ 1,277

Thailand’s gift to nature, Northern Thailand has breathtaking mountain scenery, secluded jungles, meandering rushing rivers, exotic hill tribes and interesting Buddhist temples.

Travel overland from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son situated next to the border with Myanmar.  Mae Hong Son is nestled in a deep valley hemmed in by high mountain ranges and isolated from the outside world for some time. The area is virtually covered with mist throughout the year. On arrival, travel by motor boat for 2 hours on the scenic Pai River to the village of Baan Nam Peing Din to visit with the Karen Tribe and the “Long Neck Giraffe Women” who wear numerous brass rings around their necks. Overnight in Mae Hong Son.

The following morning, visit the interesting Wat Jong Kham, a 200 year old temple and Wat Jong Klang, a temple which contains 100 year old paintings and a museum which houses 150 year old dolls. One more temple is visited at sunset, the Burmese influenced temple located on a hilltop with great views of the city and the surrounding mountains and valleys. Then continue to Tham Lod with its cave system of limestone formations. Eventually arrive at Pai, a small but lively town for overnight.

The next day, travel through more scenic countryside to the village of Mae Mali to enjoy the local market and daily life of the local people. Along the way you'll encounter some elephants before taking a bamboo raft down the Ping River. Continue on to Thaton, a town with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere for overnight.

Next morning, start with a one hour boat ride on the Mae Kok River, one of Thailand’s most beautiful rivers while passing by jungle and mountain scenery. Leave the boat and travel by road to Chiang Rai visiting en route several hilltribe villages with their colourfully clothed people. Arrive in Chiang Rai in the late afternoon.

Your last day in northern Thailand starts with a visit to Mae Sai, the northern most point in Thailand on the border with Myanmar. In the afternoon, visit the ancient town of Chiang Saen on the banks of the MekongRiver with its relics of valuable carvings, Buddha statues and old temples. Later head to Chiang Rai airport for your onward flight or return overland to Chiang Mai.
