Day 1

Chiang Mai To Lisu Lodge To Lahu Outpost

Depart this morning from Chiang Mai and to Lisu Lodge. A traditional welcome drink will be served on arrival. Then, drive by local open-air truck to the area near Pha Mieng. You will start your walk here along the jungle trails to the remote village of Hmong Pha Mieng. Here you will meet the inhabitants of this small hill tribe village in the jungle and enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest. After lunch, walk to the top of the mountain where the Red Lahu Village of Pha Daeng is located and then continue along a mountain ridge to the Lahu village of Kup Kap, from where you have a spectacular view overlooking the Mae Taeng district and Chiang Mai town glittering at night in the distance.

    village. It is designed to give clients an experience of hilltribe life in conditions which are simple and basic, but as clean and comfortable as possible without distracting from the authenticity of the experience.

    The design of Lahu Outpost is adapted from traditional Lahu style, with the addition of some features to improve the level of comfort such as hot showers and Western-style toilets. The house is on short stilts and has a thatched roof with an open veranda.

Day 2

Lahu Outpost To Lisu Lodge

After an early breakfast, you go on a walk down a steep jungle path passing by the Huay Sadharn Waterfall. Transfer by local truck to the Rafting Station and enjoy rafting down the river for about 45 minutes. Return to Lisu Lodge by local truck with stop en route at a tea plantation. Here you will stop off to relax and enjoy a magnificent landscape at plantation where you will be led by an experienced guide who will introduce you to the process of growing and harvesting tea. Afterwards, you get to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. On your return to the lodge, you will be guided by a Lisu villager, and walk from Ton Lung temple to visit the herbal garden. Then continue through the village with a stop for a cup of tea at the village shaman's house. You will have the opportunity to chat with the Lisu shaman and learn about his life, beliefs, curing rites and Lisu traditions. Next a visit the rice paddies, where your guide will walk you through the rice paddies where the villagers work together to grow rice without the use of pesticide and insecticide. Next is a stop at the Himmapaan nursery to learn about the flora of northern Thailand and how they restore the forest ecosystem at a tree nursery of the Himmapaan Foundation. Their goal is to support and implement environmental and social projects by working with local communities in areas affected by tourism. Last stop is the vegetable garden they produce organic fertilizer from leftover organic waste and grow a variety of vegetables and fruits that are used in several dishes served at Lisu Lodge. Rest of day is at leisure until your Thai dinner with a traditional Lisu dance show.

Day 3

Lisu Lodge To Khum Lanna

After breakfast this morning you will have a choice of participating in one of the following activities which is included; a guided bike tour around the Lisu Lodge area, steam bath, or a massage. YoAn early morning start with coffee and tea that will be brought to your room for your wake-up call. Before the sun rises you will start your biking trip along the rural country road via San Kwang village to Phrao to visit an early morning local market where local coffee is available. With the help of your guide you may buy local cookies and flower garlands for the temple offering on the way back. Then you visit a farmer's rice and traditional tools shop, chat with the owner, and learn more about the rice legends and differences & properties of the varieties of rice. Bike back to Khum Lanna with a stop to visit Wat Pa. Pay respect to the Buddha image under the sacred tree. Continue biking to Khum Lanna along the local canal through the rice fields and get more information about the rice-growing process and the important place that rice occupies in Thai life. You will have the opportunity to freshen up before breakfast. After breakfast, you will be given an orientation of the Khum Lanna's concept which means 'Rice for Life'and also learn about the history of rice cultivation, the types, the equipment used in the past and the future needs. Try your cooking skills out by steaming the Thai sticky rice and following this take a casual walk to the organic garden where they have a variety of produce including the different rice harvesting stages. You will also have the opportunity to collect herbs and vegetables from the garden and use these in your cooking class. Lunch will include a country style Barbeque, sticky rice that you prepared earlier. After lunch, you will be able to participate in one of the following activities, a guided biking tour around the Khum Lanna country side, creative fruit (or vegetable) carving, a local herbal steam bath to relax and rejuvenate your body or a therapeutic hot-pressed herbal massage. Later you will be transferred back to Chiang Mai to check in at your hotel. It is recommended to overnight in Chiang Mai on this evening due to the arriving back early evening.u are also more than welcome to cycling by yourself (unguided) and representative will provide you with a map book of recommended itineraries. Later, you will transfer by local truck to Chiang Dao and to an ethnic Karen village, with a picnic lunch en route. After lunch, you will start with a 2 hour soft trek through the tropical forest to end up at a traditional Lahu village. After a visit with the Lahu mountain people, transfer to Khum Lanna. After your welcome drink and checking into your room, you will be briefed on the options of activities for tomorrow. Late this afternoon, you will have the opportunity for a Thai cooking introduction plus receive a "Khum Lanna Thai Recipe Book" that explains many delicious recipes, plus the herbs used and the health benefits of each.

Day 4

Khum Lanna To Chiang Mai

Please note: All accommodation is at locally run lodges. You will receive a private room and all rooms have a bed with comfortable bedding, warm blankets and towels. Note that the Lahu outpost has shared bathroom facilities, but the Lisu Lodge, and Khum Lanna Lodges both have ensuite bathrooms. All bathrooms have western toilets and hot showers.

Clients should be reasonably fit and able to handle 2.5 hours of trekking in one day.
