River Kwai Tour - First Class

Duration
2 Days
Prices From:
US$ 332

A special way to experience this historic region is on a floating raft hotel moored at the bank of the river. This itinerary offers an excellent insight into the epic story of the River Kwai.

Internationally famous, the black iron bridge was brought from Java under Japanese supervision by Allied prisoner of war labour as part of the Death Railway linking Thailand with Burma. Still in use today, the bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during World War II and was rebuilt after the war ended. The curved spans of the bridge are the original sections.

Depart from Bangkok by bus travelling to Kanchanaburi. First visit the War Museum and the War Cemetery after which join a long-tailed speedboat to the Jungle Rafts, a 'float-el' with 17 bamboo rafts moored along this historical river offering you the opportunity to step out of your everyday world into the harmony with nature. You can bask in the sun and dive off your verandah for a swim in the river if so inclined. After lunch, take a boat ride down the river to the Hell Fire Pass Memorial. The pass, one of the most difficult parts of the railroad was built by forced labour. In the evening, after dinner, you will enjoy a performance of Mon Dances by the local ethnic people who live in this region.

The next morning, another exciting boat ride to the Saiyoke Yai Waterfall and National Park with its dense forests, and numerous animals and birds. Return back to the hotel for lunch and then explore the LavaCave containing beautiful limestone formations.

Next morning, visit the Mon Tribal village where you can take an optional elephant ride through the forest. Later, after lunch, board the “Death Railway Train” for a part of the original journey that the forced labour had to build between Thailand and Myanmar (Burma) during the 2nd World War. Leave the train en route and travel back to Bangkok by bus.

Elegant in it's distinctive boutique style, The FloatHouse River Kwai Resort aims to be the world's best floating resort. The FloatHouse River Kwai Resort is a fancy boutique hideaway and can be found in very few places in the world. The only way to reach the resort is by boat as it actually floats on a flowing river surrounded by thick green jungle. Each luxurious and spacious floating villa is totally private and rich in custom tailored-made teakwood furniture with thatched roofing. The design is delightfully impressive with exotic decorations including natural materials and ropes. The design concept for the resort is known as "Contemporary Boutique Folk Style," for a smooth blend of local artistic traditions with the natural environment, yet different from anywhere else in its characteristic rope designs that convey an oriental air.

And then you board your long tailed boat downstream to Phutakien Pier (Resotel pier) and continue on road to visit the Hellfire Pass Memorial. This is followed by an early lunch at 11:40am at a local restaurant.
