Day 1

Embark in Yichang

This evening, arrive at the Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer and settle into your cabin. Please note that your passport or local ID is required for check-in, and that your photograph will be taken for security identification purposes. Your four-night cruise will set sail on an upstream course tomorrow morning through the beautiful Three Gorges region. The total length of this cruise is 660 kilometres (402 miles) and is famous for its stunning scenery as well as its historical and culturally-important location. Later in the evening, a documentary about the Three Gorges Dam Project will be shown in your cabin.

Day 2

Xiling Gorges and Three Gorges Dam Project

Start your morning with traditional Tai Chi, led by a certified Tai Chi Master. Work up an appetite for the buffet breakfast, followed by a safety briefing and ship orientation. After breakfast, view the Xiling Gorge, the longest of the Gorges, measuring some 76 kilometres (47 miles) in length. Enjoy the view of the river where the river widens and sweeps through groves of orange and pomelo trees. Next, visit the Three Gorges Project Dam Site and Exhibition Centre. The dam spans 1.2 miles in width and 600 feet in height, and is the largest and most expensive engineering project in the world. In the afternoon, enjoy afternoon tea and a selection of activities on board, including a Chinese Medicine demonstration and an Orientation to China presentation. Tonight there will be a Captain's reception followed by an a la carte dinner. After, take part in karaoke or retire to your cabin for a cultural movie.

Day 3

The Three Gorges

This morning, cruise the Shennong Stream, disembarking at Badong to join a local longboat (sampan) poled by Tujia boatmen. Crystalline waters, verdant forests and stunning riverine gorges provide an incredible backdrop for this experience. It's also interesting to see the Tujia boatmen are still wearing traditional handmade sandals to work on the boats. After lunch on board, view the Wu Gorge followed by a Chinese calligraphy demonstration. Late this afternoon, your ship will enter the Qutang Gorge through two imposing cliffs at Kui Men gate. In the evening, a la carte dinner will be followed by a variety show performed by the crew.

Day 4

Fengdu

After this morning's Tai Chi and breakfast, there will be a shore excursion to Fengdu and the Relocated Village. After lunch, join a wheelhouse tour and take part in a selection of activities, including an arts and crafts presentation, Chinese tea appreciation, and dumpling demonstration. Tonight you will be greeted by dancing lions for a "Taste of China" dinner. Remember to pack your traditional Chinese outfit.
