Seoul City Break

3 Days
Prices From:
US$ 399

Explore the Korean capital on this brief visit to Seoul. As you tour the city, you’ll deep-dive into Korean culture at Buddhist temples, learn about its history at medieval palaces and museums, and go on a shopping spree in some of the best markets in all of East Asia.

This 3-day South Korea vacation takes you to the capital city, Seoul.

The entirety of your Korean vacation will focus on Seoul, South Korea’s capital city. With over 25 million people in its metropolitan area, Seoul is one of the largest cities on the planet. Few cities so vibrantly display the past alongside the present. You’ll find medieval palaces and Buddhist temples with centuries of tradition sitting alongside all-night gaming joints and karaoke bars. On your first full-day in Seoul, you’ll head on a small group tour to see some of city’s iconic sites. Start with a visit to Jogye-sa, one of the most important Buddhist temples in the country. Snap a photo in front of the three massive Buddha statues and learn about Buddhist traditions before continuing to Gyeongbok Palace, where you’ll witness the Changing of the Guard and explore one of the most beautiful medieval palaces in the country. Continue along to the Blue House, home of the president, and Cheongwadae Sarangchae, where you’ll learn about Korean history and innovation in an interactive exhibit. After lunch, indulge your shopping with visits to Indasong and Namdaemun Market, the largest traditional market in all of Korea. Spend the rest of your time in Seoul walking through the futuristic city streets and indulging in Korean BBQ and soju.

This Korean vacation to Seoul is a perfect add-on to a larger trip to Korea or East Asian vacation.

Day 2

Full day small group Seoul Tour

This morning you will be picked up at your hotel and set out for a full day of exploring Seoul. Visit Jogyesa Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples in Korea. Continue on to explore Gyeongbok Palace (on Tuesdays, visit Deoksu Palace instead), arguably the most impressive of the five grand palaces. Witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony, a ritual which remains unchanged since the days of the Joseon Dynasty. The guards wear traditional Joseon uniforms, carry weapons and play musical instruments. After sustaining damages over the years by fires and war, the walled palace complex has been gradually restored back to its original form. Next, pass by the Blue House presidential residence (Cheong Wa Dae), then visit Cheongwadae Sarangchae (closed on Mondays). Opened in 2010, Cheongwadae Sarangchae features an interactive exhibition of Korea's history and future vision. Stop in at a ginseng shopping centre, then have lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, proceed to Changdeok Palace, another of the Joseon Dynasty's five grand palaces (on Mondays or when the palace is closed, visit the N Seoul Tower instead). Changdeokgung was completed in 1412 and UNESCO recognizes its exceptional integration with the natural surroundings. Next, visit the colourful arts and crafts street of Insadong, located in the heart of the city. Small shops sell a wide variety of goods, including traditional Korean clothing, paper, tea, pottery and folk crafts. Visit a shopping centre, then continue on to the bustling Namdaemun Market, located at the southern gate to the old city. Opened in 1964, this is the largest traditional market in Korea, selling retail and wholesale goods including clothes, glassware, stationery, carpets, flowers and ginseng. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
