Explore the local villages and take in majestic sights such as the unclimbed Fishtail Mountain and Annapurna South. You’ll even visit a local school to learn a little about the education system in rural Nepal. Return to Pokhara to continue your Himalayan adventure.

Day 1

Pokhara to Gurung

At 8.30 am you will be met by our trek guide and transferred to our walk start point. This drive will take one hour. You will stop along the way to photograph the breathtaking panoramas of the Annapurnas. Upon arrival at the village of Lumle situated at an altitude of 1610m, you begin your one and a half hour walk to the Gurung village of Majgaun. After some 45 minutes, you arrive at the village of Chandrakot situated at an altitude of 1580m / 5200 ft. From this village, there are spectacular views of Annapurna South, the sacred and unclimbed Fishtail Mountain or Machhapuchhare as it is locally known. From Chandrakot, your walk takes you through a forested area along a well worn trail. After a further 45 minutes you arrive at the Gurung Lodge which is situated at an altitude of 1450m / 4800 ft. This lodge consists of 10 double rooms with attached bathrooms situated in Gurung [the local tribe] style houses. The lodge has extensive grounds with magnificent views of Annapurna South and Annapurna 1. There is a centrally located dining room with bar and fireplaces for relaxation and meals. After lunch, you will be escorted to the local village of Tanchok . There will be a talk at a local house, now made into a museum. The contents of the house illustrate how the local people live, together with the tools and implements of day to day traditional village life.

    Gurung Lodge is built in the traditional style of Gurung Village. The building are cosy and comfortable (a Kerr and Downey Lodge at 4,620 feet) sits on extensive gardens on the edge of the village of Majguan. The lodge has 11 simply appointed en-suite rooms housed in tribal style houses, each with antique carved windows. The jaw-dropping views of the surrounding valley and mountains, in particular Annapurna South and Annapurna One, are incomparable.

Day 2

Gurung

(Gurung Hill: 5000 ft/1,515m) After breakfast at the lodge, you will walk through the surrounding forests for 1 1/2 hours. Thiis has the name of Gurung Hill. From here, there are magnificent views of Annapurna South and the surrounding mountains. You will then return to the lodge via a different route. Lunch will be at the lodge. This will be followed by a short walk to the local school where the headmaster will talk about the local education system. There will then be a visit to the lodge by the children who will perform some of the dances and songs particular to the region. Guests may wish to leave any pens or make a small donation to the school. Either would be much appreciated and will be used by the school for education purposes.

Day 3

Gurung to Pokhara

After an early breakfast, you depart along the ridge and descend through the wooded hillside and terraced farmland to the valley floor. Trek time 1 ½ hours. Then transfer by vehicle to Pokhara (30 minutes). On the way back to Pokhara, the vehicle can stop on request at the Tibetan refugee camp where you will have time to explore the temple complex.
