This 13-day Australia vacation takes you from Sydney to Melbourne, Kangaroo Island, and Tasmania aboard the state-of-the-art cruise liner, the Norwegian Jewel.

Your trip to Australia begins in Sydney, the nation’s largest city. Sydney is famous the world over for its breathtaking harbour and easy access to some of the best landscapes on the planet. No visit to Sydney is complete without a tour of the natural harbour, visiting the Harbour Bridge and the unforgettable Sydney Opera House. You could also head to the Blue Mountains for a wilderness excursion or visit Taronga Zoo to get acquainted with the fanciful marsupials that call the country home, but you shouldn’t feel restricted to the tourist sights. You can easily get lost in Sydney, dining in some of the world’s great restaurants or dancing in its hopping nightclubs. Or simply plunk yourself down on famous Bondi Beach and work on your tan.

After exploring Sydney, board the Norwegian Jewel to embark on your journey throughout southern Australia and Tasmania. With over 16 dining options, 15 bars and nightclubs, a casino, pool, spa, and theatrical shows, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied as you flit between cities. First stop: Melbourne, Australia’s cultural capital and what the Economist has consistently declared as the most livable city in the world. It’ll only take a few hours of visiting to comprehend why Melbourne is so beloved. Hit up St. Kilda’s with its famous amusement park or chat up the footy-crazed locals in bohemian Fitzroy to get a taste for the city’s diverse neighbourhoods. Of course, you’ll want to spend most of your time in the trendy laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants of Federation Square. It’s the epicentre of Australia’s culinary revival.

From Melbourne, head to Geelong, its “little sister” and the second largest city in Victoria. Geelong is in the midst of transition, shifting from a wool and gold capital of yesteryear into a tourist hub offering ideal access to the Great Ocean Road. Head along the road to see the famous Twelve Apostles, jagged rock formations rising out of the surf along the coast. From Geelong, head a short ways across the water to Kangaroo Island, Australia’s answer to the Galapagos Islands. Kangaroo Island is all about the wildlife, boasting a mindboggling number of different species and habitats. Head to Seal Bay Conservation Park to see one of the world’s only nesting sites for Australian fur seals or D’Estrees Bay to feed kangaroos and spot osprey nests.

Pop over to Port Lincoln to experience the “Tuna Capital of the World,” which is a veritable smorgasbord of seafood restaurants and underwater experiences. You can take an oyster tour through Coffin Bay or cage dive alongside great white sharks at Neptune Island, but you’ll likely want to spend your day here feasting on a bounty of fresh seafood. Head south across the water to the island of Tasmania to visit Burnie, the “City of Makers.” A stop at the Makers’ Workshop will explain this industrial city’s rising fame as a producer of handicrafts, while a visit to the Little Penguin Observation Centre will warm your heart as you watch penguins come ashore at sundown. Close out your Australia vacation by passing through Eden, an idyllic town on the southern coastline known for its oyster farms, before returning to Sydney.
