16 Day Australia & New Zealand Cruise: Sydney to Sydney

Duration
16 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,211

Embark on an epic cruise exploring Australia’s two largest cities and the breathtaking ports of New Zealand’s North Island. Take in the sights of the cosmopolitan centres of Sydney and Melbourne before crossing the ocean to Tasmania and New Zealand to visit the filming locations of The Lord of the Rings, learn about Maori culture, and explore the varied landscapes of this enchanting island nation.

Please see left bar for ship details and cruise info.

This 16-day cruise takes you to the highlights of southern Australia and New Zealand aboard the Norwegian Jewel.

Your Australian cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines and Goway begins in Sydney, Australia’s largest city. During your stay in this cosmopolitan metropolis, you’ll ride over the massive natural harbour, visit the iconic Harbour Bridge, and tour the unforgettable Sydney Opera House. Learn about the city’s convict history in the historic Rocks neighbourhood and do some shopping on the beachfront promenade. Also be sure to work on your tan on Bondi Beach, enjoying the marvelous waters that make Sydney famous the world over.

From Sydney, embark on the Norwegian Jewel to continue your journey west to Melbourne. With over 16 dining options, 15 bars and nightclubs, a casino, pool, spa, and theatrical shows, the Norwegian Jewel has plenty of fun to keep you occupied during your time at sea. Dock in Melbourne, Australia’s cultural capital and second largest city. The Economist has consistently voted Melbourne the most livable city in the world, and after spending a day there, it’s not hard to see why. Ride the Puffing Billy steam locomotive to get a taste for the surrounding countryside before visiting Federation Square to take in the trendy laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants that have taken the city by storm. Then hit up St. Kilda’s famous amusement park, Luna Park, and bond with locals in bohemian Fitzroy.

Leave Melbourne and make for Burnie on the island of Tasmania. This “City of Makers” was once dismissed as a backwater, but its vibrant present is commanding international attention. Visit the Makers’ Workshop to try your hand at making paper before visiting the Little Penguin Observation Centre in the evening to spot penguins as they come ashore. Head onward to New Zealand and the capital, Wellington, on the North Island. Ride the red Cable Car up the mountain to visit the Botanical Gardens and enjoy the incredible view over Cook Strait. Head out of town to visit the filming locations of The Lord of the Rings. Also take in a museum while you’re there as the city is home to the National Archives, National Art Gallery, National Library, and the Museum of New Zealand.

Head north along the east coast to Napier to find an art deco city that boasts Maori culture and some of the region’s best wineries. Head further north to Tauranga, New Zealand’s fastest growing city and busiest port. Visit Mounta Maunganui, a nearby extinct volcano that stands above the town. Also be sure to check out the geothermal marvel of Rotorua, where you can see mud pools, hot springs, and the Pohutu Geyser, which shoots water 30 metres into the air.

Close out your trip to New Zealand in Auckland and the Bay of Islands. Auckland is about as picturesque as a city can get. It’s on a small strip of land cusped between two natural harbours. Climb the Sky Tower to view the harbours from high above and gain a greater appreciation for this breathtaking city. Then pass through the 140 subtropical islands of the Bay of Islands. Swim off the beaches or enjoy the vast fishing opportunities before heading back to sea and returning to Sydney.
