Discover the natural magic of Australia’s Red Centre in between visits to three of the country’s most popular cities. Start in Sydney, where you can see the Sydney Opera House, before connecting to the Red Centre to tour Uluru/Ayers Rock. Cap off your trip with visits to Adelaide and Melbourne.
This 14-day Australian vacation showcases three of the country’s most popular cities as well as the natural wonders of the Red Centre. It features your choice of accommodation level, shared tours, and is a great introduction to Australia.
Your journey begins with a flight across the Pacific Ocean that takes you to Sydney, the largest city in Australia and home to one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. You’ll have two nights in Sydney to explore at your leisure. You can spend your time exploring the obvious landmarks, from the beautiful Sydney Opera House to the Harbour Bridge, where you can book a BridgeClimb if you’re so daring. You can head to Taronga Zoo to see some of the loveable marsupials that make Australia so famous, or spend a sunny afternoon on Bondi Beach, getting in touch with the surfer culture that helps define the country.
After seeing Sydney as you see fit, fly to the Red Centre and Uluru/Ayers Rock, your base for the next few nights. This sacred monolith is Australia’s premiere natural icon and one of the cornerstones of Indigenous culture in the centre of the country. On your first night, spend four hours unlocking the magic of the rock with the Sounds of Silence Dinner. Stroll through the sand dunes, watch sunset over Uluru, and enjoy the Milky Way come alive in the hours after sundown. The next morning, wake before dawn to watch the sun rise over the sandstone monolith. You'll also go for a walk in the company of an Indigenous guide and see the rock paintings near Mutitjulu Waterhole before enjoying drinks at sunset near Kata Tjuta/The Olgas.
Head north to Kings Canyon Resort, where you’ll spend sunset enjoying views at Carmichaels Crag. The next morning, explore the rim of Kings Canyon and have the option of hiking down to the oasis in the canyon. That evening, head along the Stuart Highway on route to Alice Springs. You’ll have a day to discover the unique culture of The Alice. You’ll visit the School of the Air, which educated children over the airwaves, the Royal Flying Doctors Service, which services patients in remote communities, and the Alice Springs Reptile Centre, where you can see Bearded Dragons and other desert reptiles.
Fly south to Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, where you’ll have two nights to explore this charming city. Be sure to visit Victoria Square and the 19th-century Central Market during your time in Adelaide. You can also visit some of the famous art galleries, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, or book a wine tour into the Clare Valley wine region. From Adelaide, fly to Melbourne, where you’ll have another two nights to explore another of Australia’s most exciting cities. Experience the buzzed-about appeal of this famously livable city. Visit Federation Square to discover new laneway cafes and bars around each corner or venture into the Yarra Valley to enjoy celebrated Australia wines. Head up to the Eureka Skydeck for spectacular views or stroll along the famous pier at St. Kilda Beach.
At the end of your stay, you’ll head to the airport to fly back home.
