Australia and New Zealand Cruise Vacation from Sydney

Duration
15 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,177

Discover the treasures of New Zealand on this amazing round-trip cruise from Sydney. As you cruise Australia and New Zealand, you’ll marvel at the natural twin harborus of Auckland, meet adorable tiny penguins in Akaroa, and enjoy the country’s most famous sight as you journey across Milford Sound.

This 15-day cruise aboard the Norwegian Jewel takes you from Australia across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand, stopping off at several of the most iconic cities in New Zealand as well as Sydney, Australia.

Your Australia vacation begins in Sydney, the nation’s largest city and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Take a guided tour to take in the city highlights. Start at the Rocks neighbourhood to learn about the country’s formation as a penal colony before heading to the harbour to see the iconic Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. It is then on to Bondi Beach, where beachgoers and surfers have long worshipped the warm sand and big waves.

After rounding out your tour at Darling Harbour or Circular Quay, take advantage of the city’s many other attractions. You can head to Taronga Zoo to say “G’day” to the kangaroos, koalas, and other critters that make the country famous or indulge in the world-class culinary scene to satiate your appetite. Once you’ve gotten a taste for Sydney’s many pleasures, board the Norwegian Jewel and enjoy its comforts as you cruise across the Tasman Sea for New Zealand. With 16 dining options, 15 bars and nightclubs, a casino, pool, a spa, and theatre shows, you’ll find plenty to occupy you as you traverse the ocean.

Your first port of call in New Zealand is Auckland, a gorgeous city framed by two natural harbours. You can get your bearings and enjoy the best views of the city by climbing the Sky Tower or you can head to Auckland Domain to explore a park built atop an extinct volcano. The city is also bursting with markets, so be sure to do some shopping and take home some Maori arts and crafts while there. Head south for Tauranga, the nation’s fastest-growing city and busiest port. Here you can spend your time enjoying the sunny beaches of the Bay of Plenty or marveling at the geothermal wonders that dot the volcanic landscape. At the geothermal park, Hell’s Gate, you can see boiling mud pools and spouting geysers, the largest of which is the Poutamu Geyser.

Continue your New Zealand cruise down the east coast to Napier, the Art Deco capital of the world. Rebuilt after an earthquake in 1931, Napier is known for the stylish Art Deco buildings that line its streets and the incredible local wines from the region’s many vineyards. Be sure to stroll down the Marine Parade, a tree-filled ocean boulevard that culminates in the Maori statue, Pania of the Reef.

From Napier, pass onto Wellington, the capital of New Zealand and the second largest city in the country. There are few more iconic experiences in Wellington than riding the red Cable Car up to the Botanical Gardens where you can enjoy breathtaking views of “Windy Welly” and Cook Strait. After that, it’s up to you. You can stroll through the hillsides to stop off at art galleries to purchases some local paintings and crafts or simply admire the Victorian timber homes that dot the hills. If you’re a fan of museums, you’ll also have four world-class museums to choose from. As well, Lord of the Rings fans can be satisfied by visiting filming locations from the series or Weta Workshop, where the props and special effects were created.

Your New Zealand vacation continues onto the South Island to Akaroa, a balmy town known for boutique shops and delicious cheeses. It’s also famous for the tiny penguins that rule the roost. Be sure to bring your best camera to capture pics of these adorable pint-sized residents. Stop at nearby Dunedin to see yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals, and royal albatrosses. If you have an eye for architecture, Dunedin will treat you well. The city centre is full of Victorian and Edwardian architecture and you’ll also find New Zealand’s only castle within its borders. Close out your New Zealand cruise by visiting Milford Sound, the country’s most picturesque highlight. This glorious fjord culminates in Mitre Peak/Rahotu, the most photographed mountain in the country. You’ll also cruise along two nearby fjords, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound, to fully appreciate the beauty of the South Island.

It’s then back across the Tasman Sea to Sydney to finish your Australia and New Zealand cruise.
