Australia and Southeast Asia Cruise from Sydney

Duration
22 Days
Prices:

Explore the wonders of both Australia and Southeast Asia on one epic cruise journey. Passing from Australia to Singapore, you’ll visit Cairns, where you can explore rainforests and coral reefs, stop off on Komodo to see the famous dragons, and venture into the heart of the Javanese jungle to discover the world’s largest Buddhist temple.

This 21-day Australia cruise aboard the Norwegian Jewel takes you from Sydney to Singapore, stopping at Australian and Indonesian tropical destinations along the way.

Your Australia vacation begins in Sydney, one of the most gorgeous and vibrant world cities. There are plenty of ways to spend your time in Sydney, so follow your fancy and take advantage of the city’s multifaceted appeal. A guided tour will take you to the historic Rocks district, swing you by the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, and let you catch some rays and pal around with surfers on Bondi Beach. After your tour, you can say “G’day” to marsupials like kangaroos, koalas, and wombats at Taronga Zoo and go for a half-day hike in the gorgeous Blue Mountains. You can just as easily spend your time indulging in the city’s culture; with plenty of museums, world-class restaurants, and thumping nightclubs, you’ll find a lot to keep you occupied in Sydney. Once you’ve got a taste for the city, board the Norwegian Jewel as you take to the ocean. During your travels, you’ll enjoy the comforts and convenience of 16 on-board dining options, 15 bars and nightclubs, a casino, pool, and spa as well as musical theatre shows to keep you entertained at sea.

First stop on your Australia cruise is Newcastle, a laidback city located to the north of Sydney. With its gorgeous coastline and nearby rainforests and wetlands, Newcastle is a great spot to appreciate Australia’s natural beauty. You can head to Fort Scratchley Historic Site to learn about the city’s naval history and enjoy the best views of the coastline. Afterwards, take advantage of one of the city’s ocean baths or window shop fashionable retailers in the Junction. Continue along to Brisbane, one of Australia’s ascendant cities. Brisbane has a subtropical climate, making it ideal for outdoor activities, from watersports to rock-climbing and surfing. You can ride the breaks at popular surf spots or visit the country’s largest modern art gallery at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. Alternatively, cuddle a koala at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary or visit nearby wineries to become an expert on Australian vintages.

Head north to Airlie Beach, in the heart of the Whitsundays. Home to a tropical microclimate that keeps the water at a warm temperature, the Whitsundays are a great spot to get in the water and enjoy Australia’s famous beaches. After touring the town, head to the beach to kayak or water ski across the warm waters. Also be sure to visit Whitehaven Beach, home to pristine white sands and some of the most photogenic sights in the country. Next stop is Cairns, the nation’s gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Although small, Cairns has a lot to brag about. While visiting the town, you can ride the Kuranda Railway inland to pass through the rainforest that overflows with wildlife and has been a sacred home to indigenous Australians for thousands of years. You can also spend your time shopping the Promenade or taking a dip in the massive saltwater lagoon before heading back to sea.

Your last stop in Australia is Darwin, where the Outback and tropics collide in spectacular fashion. Darwin is a meeting point for landscapes and cultures. Not only does the desert invade the tropical coast in Darwin, but the city’s culture is a blend of Southeast Asian, Australian, and indigenous influences, making it a city that’s vibrant and ever-changing. You can learn about the Northern Territory or admire indigenous artworks at one of the many museums before shopping for arts and crafts in the downtown shops.

Leave Australia behind and head to Indonesia, making port at Komodo, the largest island in Komodo National Park and home to the incredible dragons that fascinate people around the world. You’ll have a chance to see these incredible lizards, complete with their forked tongues, as you explore the park. If you’re not so enamoured of giant dinosaur-looking reptiles, you can take advantage of the incredible diving spots around the island. You might see manta rays, dolphins, and even seahorses as you dive beneath the waves, so you’re not missing out on incredible wildlife encounters even if you skip the dragons.

Next stop on your cruise is Bali, one of the world’s vacation hotspots. While the island is most famous for its beaches, the island holds a lot of charm as well. You can explore jungles sitting beneath volcanic mountains or survey ancient stone temples dotted across the landscape. There’s plenty of fun to be had in Bali no matter how you spend your time. Continue along to Central Java and Semarang, where you can explore the Javanese jungle and find the temple of Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world. You can also traverse the Dieng Plateau to see volcanic vents and discover 8th-century Hindu temples or stroll through the markets of Semarang to shop for Javanese crafts or enjoy the spicy local food.

Your Australia and Indonesia cruise ends in Singapore, the incredible city-state that perfectly encapsulates the idea of a global city. Singapore is as much defined by its old quarters and Hindu temples as it is its modern skyscrapers. It used to be a British trading port, but today is a multi-ethnic, ultra-modern city that never stops changing. Get a taste for the passion of its citizens by heading to Chinatown to see the cramped alleyways and markets where food abounds. Visit Marina Bay to see the iconic trees lined with solar cells that define the city or to head on a cruise to enjoy the best views of the skyline from the water. Consider adding a few days onto your vacation to explore Singapore and take full advantage of its incredible culture.
