Brisbane and the Top End of the Northern Territory

Duration
11 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,655

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Brisbane has emerged in recent decades as one of Australia's fastest-growing capital cities. Explore the city, see koalas and other native Aussie animals, and enjoy feeding wild dolphins. Next is the Northern Territory. Vacation through Australia’s “Top End”, beginning and ending in Darwin with stops at Kakadu and Katherine along with way.

Uncover the best of Northern Australia on this 11-day trip through Queensland and the Northern Territory. Cuddle a Koala, feed wild dolphins, then embark on a journey through timeless Kakadu and Katherine Gorge.

Arrive in Brisbane, checking into comfortable accommodation in the heart of it all to shake off any jetlag before your adventure begins. Brisbane is a city best seen from its river, so meet your cruise bound for Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, one of the few places in Australia where you can hold a koala for the ultimate Aussie photo op. Queensland’s marine life awaits just offshore in Moreton Bay, where a whale-watching journey ends with an unforgettable evening hand-feeding the wild dolphins of Tangalooma. Take one more day at leisure in ‘Brissie,’ exploring its South Bank cultural precinct, the redeveloped shopping and entertainment hub of Tenerife, or the classic hipster havens of West End, or take a day trip to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast.

Fly to Darwin, a small Aussie capital with a big place in the country’s history. Enjoy a city sights tour and learn about Darwin’s role in World War Two, then steel your nerves for a trick to Crocosaurus Cove, where you’ll come face to fang with fearsome prehistoric survivor, the saltwater crocodile. Feeling brave? Opt for 15 minutes in the ‘Cage of Death’ for the ultimate (safe) croc encounter!

The following day, journey into Litchfield National Park and learn about the First Nations of this diverse tropical area. Australia’s indigenous culture is at its most vibrant and visible in the Top End, where it has thrived for tens of thousands of years. Learn from the First Nations locals, and tuck into an unforgettable barbecue lunch of uniquely Australian favorites.

Having overcome any fears of saltwater crocodiles, cruise the Adelaide River where the mighty reptiles leap for their dinner, enticed by your qualified guides. Continue through Kakadu, one of Australia’s most eye-opening wilderness regions, from its wildlife to 20,000-year-old rock art galleries at Ubirr. Learn about Kakadu’s traditional custodians, the Bininj, at Warradjan Cultural Centre, and cruise Yellow Billabong for more croc sightings and some great bird watching too.

On your way to the town of Katherine, stop in at Leliyn (Edith Falls) for a refreshing swim in the idyllic pool at its base. See Katherine Gorge, a spectacle a billion years in the making, and visit the historic gold mining town of Pine Creek. Pay your respects at the Adelaide River War Cemetery before returning to Darwin for one more night, and your onward journey.
