Cultural Explorer

Duration
3 Days
Prices From:
US$ 818

Immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of Australia’s Red Centre by visiting and learning about two of the country’s most iconic areas, Uluru/Ayers Rock and Alice Springs.

This 3 day tour is perfect for visitors wanting a more in depth look at the rich mythology and culture of Central Australia and its iconic sights, including Ayers Rock.

Visit Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas. Supposedly the home of the great snake king Wanambi, some geologists believe these 36 towering domes are the eroded remains of a single monolith even larger than Uluru. Either way, they are a breathtaking outback sight.

Watch as the setting sun sets ablaze the colours of Uluru, and embark on a Guided Cultural Base Walk. Your climate controlled coach takes you on to Alice Springs, the cultural centre of the outback, where you’ll meet with members of the local Aboriginal community for an unforgettable entertainment and educational experience. You’ll also visit the Royal Flying Doctor Base, School of the Air and the historic Telegraph Station.

You will travel to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to a place where unique flora and fauna thrive, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). Here, your guide will reveal the many attributes of this diverse environment and describe the cultural significance of Kata Tjuta as a sacred Aboriginal men's ceremonial site.

Arriving at Walpa Gorge you will walk between the mighty conglomerate domes and hear how these 36 domes that make up Kata Tjuta have evolved over millions of years. Take time to listen to the wind (Walpa) far above and view the scale of the rock walls that surround you. The spirituality of this amazing location embraces everyone who ventures here. Your guide will return you to your hotel in time for those people joining the Sounds of Silence dinner.

Here you enjoy sparkling wine and a selection of delectable canapes. As the sun sets in a blaze of reds and oranges, and well into the starlit night, you feast on a barbecue buffet of authentic Australian delicacies. Attention then turns to some of the world's best stargazing, as our resident astronomer takes you on an unforgettable tour of the spectacular southern night sky. Day 2

SEIT Cave Hill Day Tour

Depart early for the journey deep into the desert and the Pitjantjatjara Lands of central Australia. On arrival, meet your Aboriginal host, one of the traditional owners of Cave Hill, which is the site of the Seven Sisters Tjukurpa (dreaming). The traditional owners of Cave Hill are responsible for maintaining only the chapter of the Songline that lies within the boundaries of their homeland - a story that has been maintained since the beginning of time. Your Aboriginal hosts will guide you through the desert landscape to the magnificent cave paintings of the Seven Sisters creation story graphically illustrated on the rock walls of the most significant art site in the centre. Afterwards climb to the top of the hill above the cave to take in the view, which presents a 360 degree panorama taking in Uluru, Mt Connor and the imposing Musgrave Ranges. Discuss Tjukurpa and learn about the Songlines and its relevance to Anangu life in the desert. After a BBQ lunch you will head back to Ayers Rock Resort.

In the company of your expert guide, Desert Awakenings is designed to introduce you to the natural and cultural landscapes of this remarkable region.

Watch the distant domes of Kata Tjuta come into view and enjoy a traditional Aussie breakfast of bacon and egg rolls, tea, coffee and homemade damper with Golden Syrup in the open air. After breakfast your guide will explain the natural history of the region, and as the daylight reveals the myriad of animal tracks in the sand an insight into what activity took place during the night.

Once the sun is up, enjoy a guided tour at the base of Uluru. First stop is Kuniya where you'll take a short walk to the Mutitjulu waterhole. A visit here will help appreciate its cathedral like proportions and why it is such a powerful and spiritual place for visitors and Anangu (local Aboriginal people) alike. Your guide will explain some of the rock paintings and stories from the creation period as told by the Anangu people.
