Immerse yourself in Aboriginal heritage and sacred sites of Arnhemland.

This 3-day adventure through the Northern Territory’s Arnhemland takes you to some of indigenous Australia’s most sacred and remote sites.

Start at Mt Borradaile, a sacred site surrounded by caves that have been occupied for over 50,000 years. Your guide will take you on an Aboriginal rock art tour, including a six metre depiction of the rainbow serpent, the local totemic protector. This area has been described as a ‘living museum’ and it’s hard to disagree. Enjoy an afternoon swim or fishing in a nearby billabong. Visit more catacombs on your final day for one last archaeological treat before you depart.

Max Davidson earned the trust of the aboriginal owners of the land to open his camp in this very sacred area.

Day 2

Enjoy ‘A Living Museum’

This morning explore an area described by those privileged to have visited it as a "living museum”. Traditional beliefs say that much of the rich tapestry of art dates from the time of creation. Back to camp for lunch, followed by a lazy afternoon swim (seasonal), or a bout with the famous Barramundi game fish in the nearby billabong.

Meal Plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3

Depart Mt Borradaile

The local area is a rich, diverse ecosystem that harbours unique flora and fauna. Walk through adjacent monsoonal rainforest thickets, try your luck again with the king of game fish, the barramundi, down at the billabong or return to the art sites. Catacombs show signs of recent occupation and of ancient mortuary rites, while rock surfaces exhibit evidence of the antiquity of the local 'Bining' (Aboriginal) presence. Back to camp for lunch, and perhaps a swim before your departure.
