North of Brisbane is the ecologist’s paradise of Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. Stay at Kingfisher Bay Resort found amidst ancient rainforests and an abundance of wildlife.
The local Aboriginal people call Fraser Island K’gari, meaning paradise. And that it is, particularly for those who love a destination rich with wildlife, natural beauty and endless activities – or the opportunity to relax on the beach, doing just as little as possible. A guided 4WD Safari will take you to see many of the island’s shipwrecks, lush forest areas and famous coloured sands.

Queensland's Fraser Island offers up an ever-changing dune scape as the worlds largest sand island. This World Heritage-listed national park, which sits within the Great Sandy Biosphere and adjoins the Great Sandy Marine Park, offers a unique blend of action and adventure versus relaxation and total immersion in nature. 4WD Eco-Tour of Fraser Island
Enjoy buffet breakfast at the Maheno Restaurant. Make your way to the Village Square to meet your Ranger for your day’s adventure on the world’s largest sand island. Be sure to pack sensible shoes, swimwear and your camera. Guests learn about the natural and cultural history of Fraser Island. Swim in the crystal-clear, blue waters of Lake McKenzie, the island's most beautiful perched lake. From Central Station, walk along the banks of Wanggoolba Creek as it flows silently through the rainforest. Marvel at the tall, majestic satinay trees of Pile Valley. Drive along spectacular Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Stop to swim in the cool, fresh Eli Creek. This swift-flowing creek, the largest on the eastern beach, spills 80 mega litres of water into the ocean every day. Visit the Maheno shipwreck and marvel at The Coloured Sands of the Pinnacles. See an ancient forest being uncovered as Stonetool Sand Blow moves across the island. Arrive back at the resort. Perhaps enjoy the amazing sunset from the Jetty Hut with a nice refreshing drink and a platter of prawns before deciding where you are having dinner tonight (drinks, snacks and dinner at own expense). Note: some restaurants may need to be pre-booked.
