Start from Melbourne and travel to Geelong with its attractive waterfront. Continue to Bell’s Beach famous as a surfing centre. From here, drive through the countryside while observing Australian native wildlife such as Eastern Grey kangaroos in the wild. Next the journey takes in some exceptional cliff scenery along the Great Ocean Road. Stop for a view of the Arch, an astounding rock formation drilled out of limestone rock by wave action. Arrive at Lorne, a large seaside resort for a lunch break. Continue along the Great Ocean Road stopping at some scenic points including Kennett River to view koalas and colourful native birds. Enjoy a walk through a rainforest before arriving at Apollo Bay for overnight.

The next morning, depart from Apollo Bay for the “Shipwreck Coast”, a 130 kilometre/80 mile rugged stretch of the road so called because of the hundreds of ships that have floundered here. Then stop at Castle Cove with its strong Aboriginal heritage. Next up are the Twelve Apostles, the limestone pillars that rise out of the ocean carved over time by the waves and stand up to 45 metres/145 feet high. Afterwards, stop at the Loch Ard Gorge, the site of a famous 19th century Australian shipwreck before arriving at Port Campbell for lunch. Then continue along the Great Ocean Road visiting London Bridge, the Bay of Islands, the Bay of Martyrs and Boat Bay.  Eventually reach the Tower Hill Game Reserve to see koalas, kangaroos and emus. Arrive at Mount Gambier in South Australia for overnight, known for its limestone, volcanic landscape and crater lakes.

Depart from Mount Gambier and drive to the Coonewarra wine region famous for its cabernet sauvignon wines. While here visit the nearby Naracoorte Caves National Park and explore the caves with a guide. They are South Australia’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most important fossil sites.  Later, drive through farm country en route to Adelaide. Before arriving in Adelaide, stop in the village of Hahndorf and at Mount Lofty for amazing panoramic views of Adelaide and the surrounding area. On arrival in Adelaide, your itinerary comes to a close.
