Combine Australia’s cultural capital with one the natural wonders of the world on this air-inclusive trip to Australia. Start in Melbourne where you’ll see the city sights and venture along the Great Ocean Road before flying to Cairns to dive beneath the waves of the Great Barrier Reef.

This 12-day Australian vacation takes you from Melbourne to the Great Barrier Reef. It includes economy, moderate, or first-class accommodations depending on preference, shared tours, international airfare, and is a perfect introduction to Australia.

After crossing the Pacific Ocean and the international dateline with Virgin Australia, your trip to Australia begins in Melbourne, the country’s cultural capital and one of the most livable cities in the world. It won’t take you long to appreciate the city’s mix of trendsetting culture and high living standards. On your first full day in the city, head on a morning sightseeing tour to see city highlights from St. Patrick’s Cathedral to the Fitzroy Gardens and the Queen Victoria Markets. In the later afternoon, venture to nearby Phillip Island to catch the nightly Little Penguin Parade, where hundreds of adorable Little Penguins waddle onto the shore at sunset. You’ll have the next day at leisure to see the sights in Melbourne you missed. Equipped with a handy iVenture Attraction Pass, you’ll get access to the likes of the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel and the Melbourne Zoo. Be sure to spend some time in Federation Square and partake of the trendy dining and drink scene in the laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants.

From Melbourne, drive along the Great Ocean Road and see the natural beauty of the Victoria coastline. Savour the views of the ocean and hit the beach in your free time. The highlights of the Great Ocean Road are the Twelve Apostles, the breathtaking rocky outcrops along the coastline. Return to Melbourne and fly to Cairns in northeastern Queensland, the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy a full day cruise to Michaelmas Cay to explore the reef. Dive beneath the waves, snorkel over coral gardens, and soak up the glory of this underwater world.

The final two days of your Australian vacation are at leisure in Cairns. Arrange a further visit to the Great Barrier Reef to take full advantage of your proximity or venture inland into Northern Queensland’s rainforests. You can ride the Skyrail through the Daintree Rainforest or visit Kuranda, the village in the forest, where you can get in touch with Indigenous Australian traditions and explore the jungle’s wild side. At the end of your stay, connect back to North America via Sydney or Brisbane.

Consider extending your stay in Australia and adding on a trip to Sydney or the Red Centre.
