Melbourne, Great Barrier Reef & Sydney with Virgin Australia

Duration
15 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,929

Explore the iconic cities and landscapes of eastern Australia with Virgin Australia. Get a feel for the “World’s Most Livable City” in Melbourne before jetting up to the Great Barrier Reef in northern Cairns and closing out your tour with a yacht cruise on the harbour in Sydney.

This 15-day tour takes you to Melbourne, Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef, and Sydney with Virgin Australia. International airfare and domestic transfers are included in the price.

Your Australia vacation with Virgin Australia begins in Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne. It’s not hard to see why the Economist has consistently voted Melbourne the most livable city in the world. It’s a vibrant mixture of art, culture, and high living standards, and is constantly innovating. Start your visit in Federation Square and see the laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants that lead the city’s trendy food and drink scene. Then hit up St. Kilda’s with its famous amusement park, Luna Park and enjoy a pint in bohemian Fitzroy and talk football, cricket, or Formula One with the sports-crazed locals. Head beyond the city limits to spot penguins at Phillip Island and hop between wineries in the Yarra Valley.

After soaking in Melbourne’s culture, head up to the north of Queensland to Cairns. Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system and home to over 1,500 species of fish. Cruise out to Agincourt Reef to snorkel through underwater gardens and marvel at the colourful sea life, spotting everything from dolphins to jellyfish to octopuses. Swim with the friendly minke whales or dive beneath the waves alongside turtles. While Cairns is famous for its access to the Great Barrier Reef, it’s worth exploring in its own right. Stroll down the Promenade to get a taste for tropical urban life before heading to the nearby Kuranda Rainforest to learn about the Pamagirri people or ride the Skyrail for a bird’s eye view of the mountain jungle. Be sure to take an excursion to Port Douglas, with its quaint resort town and surfer’s paradise at Four Mile Beach.

The last stop on your Australia vacation is Sydney, the nation’s largest city. Sydney is naturally gorgeous and culturally diverse. Its massive harbour is one of the largest on earth and over a third of its residents were born overseas. Visit the Harbour Bridge and tour the unforgettable Sydney Opera House to take in the icons, but don’t limit yourself to the tourist sights. Take a hike in the nearby Blue Mountains or say “G’day” to kangaroos, koalas, and other marsupials at the Taronga Zoo. Immerse yourself in the nightlife by dining in some of the world’s best restaurants or dancing in the country’s most electric clubs. Relax on famous Bondi Beach to work on your tan or try out windsurfing on the harbour.

End your vacation with a Cruise Like a Local Luncheon Cruise on Sydney Harbour. Ride a luxury yacht alongside a small group of fellow passengers and learn about the history of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House before enjoying a 3-course BBQ lunch. Close out your cruise by kayaking, swimming, or fishing out on the harbour.

This trip to Australia with Virgin Australia is a perfect way to see two of the country’s great cities and its greatest natural wonder.
