Melbourne, Top End and Brisbane Escape

Duration
12 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,529

Experience three of Australia’s most popular cities on an air-inclusive escape. Enjoy the upscale city culture of Melbourne, delve into WWII history in Darwin, explore the nearby Outback wild of Kakadu National Park, and end in Brisbane, capital of the sunshine state.

This 12-day Australian vacation takes you to Melbourne, Darwin, and Brisbane to explore three sides of Australia. It features economy, moderate, or first-class accommodations depending on preference, international airfare, shared tours, and is ideal for a second visit to Australia.

Cross the Pacific Ocean and land in Melbourne, your first destination Downunder. Melbourne is the country’s cultural capital and one of the most livable cities in the world. It won’t take you long to appreciate its mix of trendsetting culture and high living standards. On your first full day, head on a morning sightseeing tour to see city highlights from St. Patrick’s Cathedral to the Fitzroy Gardens and the Queen Victoria Markets. In the later afternoon, venture to nearby Phillip Island to catch the nightly Little Penguin Parade, where hundreds of adorable Little Penguins waddle onto the shore at sunset. The next day is at leisure in Melbourne to see the sights you missed. Venture to St. Kilda’s to visit Luna Park or spend your time in the laneways off Federation Square, enjoying the city’s vibrant restaurant and bar scene.

From Melbourne, connect to Darwin in the Top End. Darwin is where the Outback meets the city. It’s an incredible fusion of cultures, where you can mingle with Southeast Asian, Australian, and Indigenous people while enjoying the many beaches and parks. A full day tour in Darwin starts at Crocosaurus Cove where you can get up close and personal with saltwater crocodiles and even brave the Cage of Death if you so dare. You’ll then venture to city landmarks, including military sites that played a part in the Japanese air raids of WWII and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, where you can see the country’s best collection of Indigenous art. From Darwin, drive down the Arnhem Highway into Kakadu National Park, where you’ll explore the mixture of hills and gorges, forests and arid floodplains, swamplands and plateaus. Cruise along the Yellow Water Billabong, see the rock art sites of Nourlangie, and get in touch with locals at the Warradjan Cultural Centre.

The final stop on your trip through Australia is Brisbane, the country’s third largest city and the city of sunny days. Although it used to be known as a backwater, Brisbane is constantly growing bigger and better. There’s a lot to enjoy here, from the trendy bars of the West End to the avant-garde artworks of the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art to the easy access to the Sunshine Coast. Cruise down the Brisbane River to get a sense of the city’s geography and visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the world’s oldest koala sanctuary, where you can cuddle one of these furry marsupials for yourself.

At the end of your stay, head to the airport to connect back home.
