Nature Lovers Essential New Zealand

Duration
15 Days
Prices From:
US$ 4,543

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: This immersive small group adventure introduces you to New Zealand’s stunningly diverse natural landscapes. Journeying from Auckland to Nelson and Queenstown, you’ll explore Middle-earth, hike along Cathedral Cove and the Abel Tasman National Park, and cruise Milford Sound.

This 15-day New Zealand vacation takes you on a natural journey across the North and South Islands from Auckland to Queenstown and stopping at landmarks such as the Hobbiton Movie Set, Coromandel Peninsula, Abel Tasman National Park, and Milford Sound. It features first-class accommodations and a mix of private and shared tours.

Your journey begins in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand and a city blessed with two natural harbours. The city is also close to the Waitakere Ranges, where you’ll head for a full day of hiking through the kauri forests and up to mountain lookouts with spectacular views. Bid farewell to the city and head south to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where you’ll discover an underground world lit up by bioluminescent glowworms. Connect to the famous tourist town of Rotorua before delving into the legends of Middle-earth at the Hobbiton Movie Set, where sets from The Lord of the Rings movies remain to this day. Afterwards, delve into Maori culture and cuisine at Te Puia and gaze upon the geothermal activity that makes the area famous, including Pohutu Geyser, the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere.

Reach the Coromandel Peninsula and explore the attractive avenues of Coromandel Town before riding the Driving Creek Railway through replanted forests and over narrow gorges, enjoying views of the town and harbour during the journey. Hop off the train and head into Coromandel Forest Park to explore one of the country’s largest kauri forest groves and bask in the magnificence of these ancient trees. At Hot Water Beach, dig a hole in the sand and allow the soothingly warm waters to fill it and create your very own hot tub. Connect to nearby Cathedral Cove to see arguably the most famous beach in the nation, known for its pristine sands framed by a rocky arch. Hike along the coastline through the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve before riding the ferry back to Auckland through the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

Fly to Nelson on the South Island and board a Vista Cruise to Kaiteriteri. Disembark at Toaranui, where you’ll hike through beech and rata forests en route to the islet of Awaroa in Able Tasman National Park. Spend a night at a homestead on the islet and hike the next day over granite headlands, along golden beaches, and through forests to Torrent Bay, where you’ll spend the night in a lodge on the beachfront. Hike to Marahau to see its hidden beaches and bays before connecting to Motueka and back to Nelson.

Fly onward to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital, where you’ll head into the surrounding beech forest to hike to lookouts and hear the birdsong of rare native birds. Reach Te Anau and the Milford Road, driving through one of the world’s most beautiful alpine routes, and board the Milford Mariner for a cruise along famous Milford Sound. Gaze up at Mitre Peak and enjoy bountiful nature on your journey out to the Tasman Sea, where you’ll spot seals, penguins, and dolphins. Take a kayak out for a paddle before overnighting at Harrison Cove. You’ll then journey back up the fjord and connect back to Queenstown.

After a final night in Queenstown, you’ll head to the airport for onward travels.

In 1884 William Hadfield built the original two-storeyed home, Meadowbank, on the best site in the bay in order to catch the stunning panoramic views and the all-year-round sun. It is set amongst the original camellia and rhododendron trees, which were bought from England as a memory of a homeland left behind. The character of Meadowbank has been brought back to life through the extensive use of period windows, doors and timbers, yet all the conveniences of today have been included. Meadowbank Homestead - Awaroa is filled with memories of the earlier homestead, Meadowbank.
