US$ 8,435

Explore one of the world’s last untouched regions on this cruise through Papua New Guinea. Onboard a brand new cruise vessel, you’ll explore the remote islands of this frontier nation and see exotic animals, cross pristine landscapes, and meet locals who’ll offer insight into their millennia-old culture.

This 14-day Papua New Guinea vacation takes you through this rarely-visited nation aboard a brand new cruise vessel. It features first-class accommodations, shared tours, and is great for adventurous travellers wanting to explore one of the world’s last frontiers.

Your journey begins in Wewak, where you’ll board the Coral Adventurer, your home for the next 13 nights. Holding a maximum of 120 passengers, Coral Adventurer is a brand-new flagship exploring the north of Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. Enjoy comfortable accommodations, gourmet food in the restaurant, cocktails in the indoor and outdoor bars, and the use of the two Xplorer vessels and six zodiacs on board. Head into West Papua and arrive in Jayapura, known as Hollandia in World War II. You’ll explore the cultural melting pot and head to nearby Lake Sentani to see the distinctive artwork of the locals. Then board a longboat to cruise alongside the stilt towns built over the lake before enjoying a dance and music show at Asei Village.

Continue to the island of Mioswundi, where you’ll meet locals and learn about life in these remote islands. Spend another day at sea learning about your upcoming excursions before crossing the equator and reaching Wayag Island. Cruise through the maze of limestone karsts aboard a zodiac before climbing to the top of Mt. Pindito for views over the island or swimming through Wayag Lagoon. Head to Kawe Island to reach a monument to the equator before continuing to Waigo Island to go snorkelling or diving in Aljui Bay, one of the best coral reefs in the country. Continue across the channel and climb 320 steps up to the lagoon of Penemu for views over the island.

In Yensawai, you’ll head to remote villages and visit a primary school before spending some time in the local market. Continue in a zodiac through the mangrove lagoons and hike up to a waterfall before heading to Gam Island to enjoy some evening entertainment in the village of Yenwaoupnor and sampling some food cooked in a traditional underground oven. If you’re a birder, you’ll want to rise early the following morning to go hike through the steep hills in search of the beautiful, elusive Red Bird of Paradise. That evening, enjoy a BBQ facing the island of Mesempta. The next day head on a cruise in a glass bottom boat and head to Wagmab to snorkel through coral gardens and dive steep reef walls.

In the Spice Islands, you’ll discover the world’s source of nutmeg and mace. Marvel at Gunung Api Volcano and see the Kora Kora canoes of Banda before strolling alongside the Dutch colonial mansions and marketplaces of Banda town. End the day with champagne at Fort Belgica. The next day, go snorkelling through a submerged lava flow or spend a leisurely day in Banda enjoying cinnamon tea and local delicacies in a waterfront hotel.

You’ll then bid farewell to Papua New Guinea and spend the day crossing the Timor Sea. Reach Darwin, where you’ll disembark. Consider adding on this cruise to a longer vacation through Australia.
