Day 1

Port Moresby to Mount Hagen

Upon your arrival in Port Moresby, you will be met by Trans Niugini Tours staff and transferred to your flight Air Niugini Port Moresby to Mount Hagen. Mount Hagen Town is in the upper Wahgi Valley - a valley with some of the oldest evidence of agriculture in the world. Perched high on Mount Kuta is Rondon Ridge, with unbelievable views of the Wahgi Valley.

Day 2

Mount Hagen to Karawari

After breakfast you will be transferred to Mt. Hagen Airport for your charter flight from Mount Hagen to Karawari, The Mountains start to give way until eventually vast tracts of dense tropical lowland rainforest cover the landscape for as far as the eye can see. From Karawari airstrip, you will be transferred by river boat and four wheel drive to Karawari Lodge. Sitting on a ridge above the Karawari River, Karawari Lodge boasts a spectacular view over hundreds of kilometres of dense tropical jungle. Inspired by local architecture and built with traditional materials, while still providing modern comforts.

Proceed with lunch then follow by an afternoon visit to Kundiman village for sago making demonstration. Sago is the Staple food for the river people.

Day 3

Cultural Touring of the Karawari area

Wake up to the chattering of Lorikeets and Eclectus Parrots. Enjoy two day excursions along the jungle-fringed waterways of the Karawari River where boatmen, standing upright, paddle their slender dugout canoes with sculpted silhouettes of crocodile masks. Village life including carved totems, drums, woodcarvings and different expressions of art are also experienced. See bountiful bird life along the rivers and nearby lakes. Excursions will enhance your understanding of traditional village culture in the Sepik region.

Today is totally free and at leisure. You can take advantage of any optional activities available or simply relax.

Day 5

Wahgi Valley

In the morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Karawari Airstrip for your charter flight from Karawari to Mount Hagen. Upon arrival in Mount Hagen you transfer to Rondon Ridge. Mount Hagen Town is in the upper Wahgi Valley - a valley with some of the oldest evidence of agriculture in the world. Perched high on Mount Kuta is Rondon Ridge, with unbelievable views of the Wahgi Valley.

Proceed with lunch and a Half Day Birding and Nature tour.

Day 6

Explore the Mount Hagen Area

Two full days are spent exploring the Hagen Area and Wahgi Valley. The Mount Hagen area is the home of the Melpa people, a people with a strong culture, who in the face of modernity, still live largely traditional subsistence lifestyles. In the mountains surrounding the Wahgi Vally live a stunning array of bird, orchid and plant life.

Mount Hagen to Port Moresby
