Captain Cook: Northern Fiji Colonial Club

8 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,811

This unique and memorable cruise takes you to highlights reached by very few Fiji vacations.

Spend 8 days getting to know Northern Fiji. Since many of the country’s most popular tourist stops are in the south along the Coral Coast, this cruise, which includes Tivua Island, the north coast of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Taveum Island, offers you a more local and authentic taste of Fiji.

Set out from Tivua Island after a warm welcome and a twilight swim. Your first stop is the north coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island. You’ll stop at two points for snorkelling and swimming, then go on to Levuka. This was the first European settlement in Fiji. While no longer the wild port town it was in its heyday, Levuka is still one of Fiji’s most interesting historic centres.

Many visitors skip Vanua Levu, which is a shame, since it’s an ideal island for seeing the ‘real’ Fiji away from tourism. There’s no shortage of things to do either, from touring a pearl farm to browsing local markets, or soaking in a natural hot water spring. Then visit Taveuni, Fiji’s garden island. You’ll have the option of a bus trip to Bouma Waterfall and Nasselesele Village before ending your day with a traditional lovo feast.

Slowly make your way back to Nadi, enjoying visits to several islands (including one surprise location), more chances to go snorkelling, and a gala farewell dinner. A truly memorable way to spend your last day cruising Fiji.

This morning you arrive at the port of Levuka on the island Ovalau, situated off the northeast coast of the main island. Levuka was the first European settlement in Fiji and became the centre of British colonial administration and trade. At its peak over 50 hotels catered to the thirst of sailors in port and the town gained a wild reputation. In 1888 the capital was moved to Suva on the main island, and Levuka's notoriety gradually waned. Passengers are invited to join an optional tour of this now quiet historic town with its stately backdrop of 19th Century colonial architecture and waterfront promenades. In the afternoon visit the children of Marist Convent Primary School.
