Northern Territory Plus

Duration
13 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,429

Get to know the Australian Outback on a getaway to the Northern Territory. Stand in awe as the sandstone monolith of Uluru turns from red to purple at dawn, learn about the region’s history at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin, and track saltwater crocodiles like Crocodile Dundee in Kakadu National Park.

This 13-day tour takes you to the highlights of the Northern Territory of Australia. International airfare is included in this Australia vacation package.

Your Australian vacation begins in Sydney, the nation’s largest city. With its iconic Harbour Bridge and unforgettable Sydney Opera House, there is plenty to recommend this cosmopolitan metropolis. From Sydney head to the country’s Red Centre and the icon of Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock. Uluru is the most famous site in the Outback and probably all of Australia. Rising 348 metres high, this ancient sandstone rock formation is a spectacle to behold. Depending on the time of day, the enormous monolith changes from bright red to a deep blue or purple. Tour the rock and its surrounding area to take in its majesty and learn about its indigenous caretakers, the ancient Anangu people. Nearby Uluru is Kata Tjuta or the Olgas, a fascinating collection of 36 rock domes that are second only to Uluru in splendour.

Nearby Uluru lies Alice Springs, the definitive Outback town. Situated halfway between Darwin and Adelaide, Alice Springs was formed as a part of the Overland Telegraph Line in 1872 and you can tour the Telegraph Station to learn about its historical importance. Today, it’s an eccentric desert town, where camel races and airplane doctors are the norm. Visit Todd Mall to take in some of the best indigenous art galleries in the country before climbing Anzac Hill for a gorgeous panoramic view of the town and its rustic surroundings.

After taking in the sights of Alice Springs, head north to Darwin on your Australia vacation. Darwin is where the Outback meets the city. Sitting on the northern coast, Darwin shares as much with tropical wonders like Bali as it does with its Australian counterparts to the south. This makes the city an incredible fusion of cultures, where you can mingle with Southeast Asian, Australian, and indigenous peoples while enjoying the many beaches and parks. Visit the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory to learn about the territory’s history and see the country’s best collection of indigenous art. Of course, Darwin also serves as the gateway to Kakadu National Park, the largest national park in Australia.

Kakadu National Park catapulted to fame as the home of Crocodile Dundee in the eighties and has continued to amaze Globetrotters ever since with its stunning mixture of landscapes. Kakadu is like Australia is miniature. You’ll find hills and gorges, forests and arid floodplanes, swamplands and plateaus. Depending on the season, the park shifts between desert and rainforest. This diversity leads to an abundance of wildlife; over 280 bird and 70 mammal species call the park home. Marvel at wallabies and kangaroos wandering the plains before tracking saltwater crocodiles in the park’s billabongs. Kakadu has also been home to the indigenous peoples of Australia for over 20,000 years. At Nourlangie, you can marvel at ancient rock paintings of extinct Tasmanian tigers and the Creation myths, which are some of the oldest artworks on the planet.

Say goodbye to the Northern Territory as you travel to Cairns to complete your Australian vacation. Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, so get acquainted with this charming city before taking a boat out to explore the wonders of the world’s largest coral reef. This trip to Australia is sure to enchant you with its combination of charming towns and majestic landscape.
