Northern Territory Top End Adventure

Duration
12 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,699

Explore Australia's famous cities and Outback on this incredible vacation that includes airfare. Start in Melbourne, where you'll get a taste for world-famous trends, before heading to Darwin, where you'll explore Kakadu National Park and the Outback. Finally, head to Sydney to see the icons like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

This 12-day Australian vacation takes you to Sydney, Melbourne, and the highlights of the Top End. International and domestic airfare is included in the pricing.

Your trip to Australia begins in Melbourne. Sydney may have been blessed with nature's bounty, but Melbourne is the country's cultural capital and the world's most livable city according to The Economist. It also keeps getting cooler. You won't find a more vibrant mix of arts and culture and high living standards anywhere else in the country. Ground zero for the trendy scene is Federation Square, where you'll find the laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants that lead the city's culinary innovation. For more traditional sites, head to St. Kilda's to visit the famous amusement park, Luna Park, or enjoy a pint and talk football, cricket, or Formula One with the sports-crazed locals of bohemian Fitzroy.

From Melbourne, fly to Darwin in Australia's Top End, where you'll spend a few days exploring the city and the surrounding wilderness in Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge. Begin with a sunset cruise to enjoy views of the famous Darwin sunset. The next day, explore Edith Falls, where you can swim behind the famous waterfall, and Katherine Gorge, where you'll see examples of Indigenous rock art in addition to the impressive rock and water of the gorge. The following day, venture into Kakadu National Park to explore its mixture of hills and gorges, forests and arid floodplains, swamplands and plateaus. In addition to the incredible abundance of wildlife, which consists of over 280 bird species and 70 mammal species, including kangaroos and wallabies, you'll delve into the rich Indigenous history of the region as you see famous rock paintings and visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre. Close out your exploration of the region by heading to Litchfield National Park, where you'll explore waterfalls and sandstone escarpments, and marvel at the incredible termite mounds that rise several metres off the ground.

After exploring the wilderness of the Top End on your Australian vacation, you'll spend some time in Darwin, where the Outback meets the city. Darwin is an incredible fusion of cultures, where you can mingle with Southeast Asian, Australian, and Indigenous peoples while enjoying the many beaches and parks. Visit the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory to learn about the territory’s history and see the country’s best collection of indigenous art. You'll also learn about the city's war history by visiting sites that played a part during the Japanese air raids in World War II. Also, be sure to head to Crocosaurus Cove to get up close and personal with saltwater crocodiles and brave the Cage of Death if you dare.

Connect from Darwin to Sydney for the last stop on your Australia vacation. Sydney is the nation’s largest city and one of the most naturally-appealing places in the world. Blessed with a massive natural harbour and home to a diverse array of go-getters, Sydney is gorgeous and vibrant. There are a lot of ways to spend your time while in Sydney, so follow your fancy and take advantage of the city’s multifaceted appeal. Be sure to visit the harbour to see the iconic Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. If you want to take advantage of the sun, head to Bondi Beach and hobnob with the surfers who turn to Sydney when northerly countries grow cold. Say “G’day” to marsupials like kangaroos, koalas, and wombats at the Taronga Zoo, or go for a full-day hike into the gorgeous Blue Mountains to get a taste for the famous wilderness of New South Wales. Sydney will treat you well if you have an appetite for nature and culture; with plenty of museums, world-class restaurants, and thumping nightclubs, there’s a lot to keep you occupied.
