Red Centre 4WD Safari Adventure

Duration
13 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,669

Explore Australia’s Red Centre on this getaway to the Northern Territory. Watch sun rise over the red sandstone monolith of Uluru before trekking through the region in search of perentie lizards and camping beneath the stars. Close out your trip with a tour of Sydney with its iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

This 13-day tour takes you throughout Australia’s Northern Territory before exploring Sydney’s cosmopolitan comforts. International airfare is included in the price for this trip to Australia.

Your Australia vacation begins in Alice Springs, the definitive Outback town in the Northern Territory. Situated halfway between Darwin and Adelaide, Alice Springs was formed as a part of the Overland Telegraph Line in 1872 and you can tour the Telegraph Station to learn about its historical importance. Today, it’s an eccentric desert town, where camel races and airplane doctors are the norm. Visit Todd Mall to take in some of the best indigenous art galleries in the country before climbing Anzac Hill for a gorgeous panoramic view of the town and its rustic surroundings.

After getting your bearings for the Outback in Alice Springs, head to Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, the country’s iconic heart. Uluru is the most famous site in the Outback and probably all of Australia. Rising 348 metres high, this ancient sandstone rock formation is a spectacle to behold. Depending on the time of day, the enormous monolith changes from bright red to a deep blue or purple. Tour the rock and its surrounding area to take in its majesty and learn about its indigenous caretakers, the ancient Anangu people. Watch the sunrise on Uluru and nearby Kata Tjuta, or the Olgas, 36 rock domes that are second only to Uluru in splendour.

After taking in Uluru and acquainting yourself with the indigenous people of the region, embark on an Outback safari through the territory, searching for incredible animals while traversing the rugged landscape by foot or 4WD jeeps. At Watarrka National Park, stand in awe of Kings Canyon. It might beat out even Uluru in terms of sheer natural beauty. Search for the intricately-designed perentie lizards in the West MacDougall Ranges. Camp out under the stars and experience an authentic “Wayoutback” experience in Owen Springs.

After traversing the incredible landscapes of the Northern Territory, head to coastal Sydney to complete your Australian vacation. Sydney is the nation’s largest city with plenty of iconic sights, from the grandeur of the Harbour Bridge to the unforgettable Sydney Opera House. Say “G’day” to kangaroos, koalas, and other marsupials at the Taronga Zoo before immersing yourself in the nightlife by dining in some of the world’s great restaurants or dancing in the country’s most electric clubs. Relax on famous Bondi Beach to work on your tan right before closing out your trip to Australia.
