Launceston is the largest city in Northern Tasmania and is central to many key attractions including Cataract Gorge. Visit Boag’s brewery or take a Ghost Tour of this historic town. Nearby FreycinetNational Park is home to rugged, yet beautiful coastline, where you’ll enjoy a guided walk with a Park Ranger and see sights such as WineglassBay, voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

Cosmopolitan Hobart is the rising cultural centre of the south, the Museum of Old and New Art being its latest big ticket attraction. Those craving the outdoors might enjoy nearby Tahune Airwalk. Surrounding Hobart are history rich towns such as Richmond, which you’ll also have the chance to explore. For those on shorter itineraries, the 4 day tour ends here and the 9 day tour begins.

Strahan is the largest city on the wild WestCoast, a World Heritage Wilderness area. You’ll take a cruise along the GordonRiver and visit Sarah Island, Tasmania’s most infamous penal colony during the convict era.

Cradle Mountain embodies ‘The Natural State’ like nowhere else on the island. Enjoy a choice of activities here to suit your own interests. See The Nut, an impressive coastal volcanic plug overlooking the picturesque town of Stanley, and breathe the world’s cleanest air at Cape Grim.

Arrive Launceston

Be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Explore the city on a guided tour and then enjoy your selected activity. Later, delight in a Welcome Dinner and Drink with fellow APT travellers.

Travel through the scenic wine-producing area of northern Tasmania. Traverse Weldborough Pass before continuing to Freycinet National Park. Tonight, savour an exclusive Gourmet BBQ overlooking Coles Bay (weather permitting).

Day 3

Freycinet National Park, Ross, Richmond, Tasman National Park, Port Arthur

This morning after breakfast, you have some time at leisure to explore Freycinet National Park. Perhaps take a walk to Wineglass Bay lookout and take in the views of pure white beaches and the surrounding bushland. Later, travel to the heritage towns of Ross and Richmond and admire their historic convict-built bridges. Then enter Tasman National Park. You'll see how nature and time create spectacular rock formations such as the Tessellated Pavement, Devils Kitchen and Tasman Arch. Continue along a scenic stretch of road to one of Australia's most historic sites, the convict settlement of Port Arthur. This evening, stay in the shadows of the former penal colony.

Port Arthur Historic Site, Depart Hobart

Step back in time as you explore the Port Arthur Historic Site. There's no better place to imagine how convict life would have been as you tour the ruins, explore the chilling prison and cruise across Mason Cove around the Isle of the Dead. Afterwards, travel to Hobart and transfer to the airport.
