Southern Escape: Value Plus Escorted Vacation

MODERATE | ESCORTED COACH TOUR: This South Island New Zealand tour shows you the Land of the Long White Cloud at its most dramatic, from powerful glaciers, to majestic Mount Cook, plus Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Eighth Wonder of the World,’ Milford Sound.
This 8-day New Zealand trip covers the most dramatic sights of the South Island.
Touch down in Christchurch, then head west to Ashburton and glacier country. Admire the Franz Josef Glacier on your way through to Fox Glacier, the larger and more accessible of the two. A range of options can take you to the Glacier, including helicopter rides, guided walks, or a relatively easy self-directed walk along the viewing path.
Drive on to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital and your base for an unforgettable trip to Milford Sound. Rudyard Kipling called this sixteen kilometre fjord the Eighth Wonder of the World, and it’s hard to argue as you pass beneath soaring Mitre Peak and approach the Tasman Sea. Keep an eye out for dolphins, seals and even whales as you explore the waterway. Even the bus ride there offers its own amazing views. Before that, you’ll have a day at leisure to enjoy some of Queenstown’s own activities, which might include a wine trip or a gondola ride to Bob’s Peak.
After your day at Milford Sound, skip the long drive back with an overnight stay in Te Anau. Instead, travel east to Dunedin, the student town of the South Island and possibly the most Scottish town in New Zealand. Learn the chilling myths of Larnach Castle and admire the highlights on a city tour. You’ll then follow the coast to see the Moeraki Boulders, finally turning towards Mount Cook, the highest peak in Australasia. Stay overnight, enjoying a spectacular farewell dinner.
Drive along the shores of Lake Tekapo on your way back to Christchurch, where you’ll meet your departing flight.
