Duration
10 Days
Prices From:
US$ 3,165

Enjoy the ideal introduction to the southern island state of Tasmania. Starting and ending in Hobart, you’ll explore spectacular landscapes in Cradle Mountain-St. Lake Clair National Park and Freycinet National Park, cruise along the Gordon River, and explore the prison history of infamous Port Arthur.

This 10-day Australian vacation explores the wonders of Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost state. It features first-class accommodations, escorted coach tours, and is perfect for travellers wanting to explore more of Australia.

Your Australian tour begins in Hobart, the state’s capital and a city in the midst of cultural resurgence. Enjoy a tour of the city to see its highlights, from Battery Point to Salamanca Place to the Botanic Gardens and finally Mt. Nelson, where you’ll enjoy stunning views over the city. Turn northwest and pass into New Norfolk and Mt. Field National Park, where you’ll gaze upon the three-tiered waterfalls of Russell Falls. Continue into the pristine wilderness region of Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park and Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park to get your first taste of Tasmania’s stunning wilds.

One day, you’ll cruise along the Gordon River to admire the dark waters and spy upon untouched nature on either side of the river. Stop by Macquarie Harbour for a new view of Australia’s history as a penal colony. Another day, head to Dove Lake to gaze upon Cradle Mountain and journey through a wilderness filled with Bennetts wallabies, echidnas, and Friesian cows. After exploring the wild, turn north to the coast and reach Smithton, where you’ll feast on some of Australia’s freshest seafood.

Continue east and pass through the temperate rainforests of the Tarkine Wilderness before reaching Launceston in the country’s north. Take a journey along the Tamar River and visit the gold mining town of Beaconsfield before venturing to nearby Cataract Gorge, the stunning centrepiece of the Tamar River Valley. Turn southeast and visit the Bridestowe Lavender Estate before stopping in Bicheno to see a colony of Little Penguins and spot some Tasmanian Devils in the wild.

On the final couple days of your Australian vacation, you’ll head into the stunning Freycinet National Park to journey along white sand beaches and explore the mountain-fringed coastline. Return to Hobart and spend a full day exploring Port Arthur, former home of Australia’s most infamous prison. You’ll also cruise to the Isle of the Dead and spot Tasman’s Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, and the Blowhole. After another night in Hobart, you’ll return to the airport to connect to your onward destination.
