Make your way to Jabiru, in the heart of Kakadu National Park. A paradise for bird-watchers, the park is also home to over 550 species of animals, including fearsome saltwater crocodiles. Take a cruise on the Adelaide River Queen to see these powerful creatures leap up to 2 metres out of the water.
Visit the gold-mining town of Pine Creek on your way to Katherine Gorge, one of the region’s most impressive sights. See Edith Falls and mysterious Cutta Cutta Caves. During the dry season, consider a swim or hire a canoe to explore the saltwater crocodile-free Gorge before your return to Darwin.

Darwin to Kakadu 255 km (160 miles) 3 hours
Make your way to Kakadu. Travel along the Arnhem Highway to Jabiru and Kakadu National Park.
