Value Grand Australia: Escorted Vacation: Cairns to Sydney

Duration
13 Days
Prices From:
US$ 4,675

Join an extended tour of the Queensland Coast and the Great Barrier Reef and experience tropical resorts, some on the Reef itself. You will discover rainforests and tablelands as well as visit Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo and have time to enjoy swimming, water sports and more.

Start your tour in Cairns where you will stay for the first 2 nights. Cairns is a small city in the tropical north of Queensland and is best known as the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, one of Australia’s most popular destinations. In the city itself, you can go for a stroll along the Promenade and discover the very large saltwater lagoon in the centre of the city. On your first day, travel north to Port Douglas for a tour of this pretty coastal town. Return to Cairns where in the evening, you will have a welcome Aboriginal cultural dinner and performance.

The following morning, have a cruise from Cairns on a fast catamaran to Reef’s Magic platform and enjoy 5 hours amid the colourful coral and marine life with the opportunity to snorkel, walk through the underwater observatory, have a tour on a semi-submerged or glass bottom boat or simply relax on board. The Great Barrier Reef is situated off the coast of Queensland, Australia and is the largest coral reef system in the world, roughly as big in area as Italy, Japan or Germany and half as big as Texas. It is also the only living thing on earth visible from outer space.

The next day, ride the Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to above the treetops to Caravonica Lakes. You will travel over a tropical rainforest canopy and also visit the Atherton Tablelands where you will experience the Millaa Millaa Falls and be amazed at the unusual formations of the Curtain Fig Tree. Later continue to Mission Beach situated in a secluded rainforest for overnight accommodation.

Depart Mission Beach for Townsville where you will have a tour of this tropical city. Afterwards drive south along the Queensland coast to Airlie Beach where you take the ferry to Daydream Island in the Whitsundays for a 2 night stay.

The following day is totally free to do absolutely nothing or snorkel, indulge in one of the many water sports available, have a walk through the tropical jungle to the highest point on the island or pamper yourself at the spa. A half day excursion to Whitehaven Beach is available to explore its crystal clear waters and pristine beach.

The next morning, cruise back to the mainland and travel by road south again to Rockhampton with its wide streets lined with Victorian-style buildings. Rockhampton was a boom town in the 19th Century during the gold and copper mining era. Stay overnight in Rockhampton.

Before departure from Rockhampton, have a tour of the city and its beautiful gardens, some of the best in Australia. Later continue southwards and take the ferry over to Fraser Island where you will stay for 2 nights. Fraser Island is a UNESCO world heritage-listed island and a place of exceptional beauty offering long uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly coloured sand cliffs. Fraser Island is the only place anywhere where tall rainforests are found growing on sand dunes.

To discover this beautiful island, the following morning brings a half-day tour. After that, you have leisure time to perhaps explore the hundreds of walking trails which crisscross the island or immerse yourself in the ancient rainforests or explore the coloured sand cliffs on Seventy-Five Mile Beach.

You head next to Brisbane but before arriving there, visit en route the Australia Zoo made famous by the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin and see many native Australian species up close. From Brisbane, continue to the Gold Coast for overnight accommodation at Surfers’ Paradise Beach, an excellent place for shopping with its 14 shopping centres. Along the beachfront, you will find around 120 market stalls offering everything under the sun.

From the Gold Coast, travel to Byron Bay, a pretty seaside town renowned for its numerous surfing beaches. Then continue to Port Macquarie for overnight accommodation.

Eventually arrive in Sydney where you will have a farewell dinner at the Sydney Tower with spectacular views of the city. Stay overnight in Sydney and the next morning have a half day tour to visit iconic landmarks such as the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. After this your tour comes to an end.
