Wine Wilderness & Wildlife Escape flying Qantas Airways

Duration
17 Days
Prices From:
US$ 4,549

This Australia vacation brings together unique icons, unforgettable flavours, and all-Aussie wildlife to create a Downunder trip you’ll be talking about for years to come.

This 17-day, air-inclusive trip starts in Sydney, taking in some of the country’s best wine regions and natural landscapes before coming to a close in culture-loving Melbourne.

Sydney contains so many of Australia’s most iconic images it’s hard to know where to start. A walking tour of the historic Rocks District is a good bet, highlighting the rough and ready past of these picturesque harbourside streets. Afterwards, explore modern day Sydney with visits to King’s Cross, chic Vaucluse and Double Bay, the Sydney Opera House, St Mary’s Cathedral, Darling Harbour, and the Harbour view from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. Some would argue though that the best view of Sydney is had from the water, so on the following day, you’ll take a harbour cruise, culminating in a visit to Taronga Zoo. While it would be easy to keep yourself occupied in Sydney for a week, you’re also on the doorstep of some of Australia’s best wine regions. Pick up your hire car and spend two nights amid the vines. Relax and enjoy the fresh air and facilities at your guest house in between visits to local cellar doors, where you can try the fresh flavours of the Hunter Valley.

Hands down Australia’s tastiest capital, Adelaide is a sleeper favourite on many Australia vacations. The smallest of the ‘Big 5’ Aussie cities, it boasts the world’s largest cabaret festival, and is surrounded by internationally famous wine regions including the Barossa Valley. A full day Barossa experience lets you enjoy all the area has to offer, including award winning wines and a range of other flavours.

Just to the south of Adelaide lies ‘Australia’s Galapagos,’ Kangaroo Island. Transfer from the mainland via a 45 minute ferry ride. Then visit a working honey farm, enjoying lunch at Seal Bay before seeing the fascinating animals that call Kangaroo Island home. Yes, you’ll see the island’s namesake, but it also supports a wide range of birds, plus Australian natives including echidnas, possums, wallabies, bandicoots, and more. Your visit ends in the western part of the island, exploring Flinders Chase National Park. Here, the wildlife roams among some of Australia’s most intriguing rock formations, including Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch.

Ready for a taste of Tasmania? Spend two nights in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, exploring the wilderness, and relaxing at one of Australia’s most exquisite spa lodges. Don’t spend all your time on the massage table though. You’re surrounded by stunning walks through one of Australia’s most beloved and wildlife-rich national parks. So keep your eyes open for the local fauna as you enjoy the kind of wilderness only Tasmania can offer.

qantasNamed the world’s most liveable city for six years running by the Economist, you might think Melbourne is a contented city with nothing to prove. Wrong. Being the ‘second child’ just means the Victorian capital tries harder. Let it impress you with world class galleries that overlook some of the world’s best street art, Australia’s oldest Chinatown, its biggest theatre scene, a slew of fascinating historic attractions including the Shrine of Remembrance, Old Melbourne Gaol, Captain Cook’s Cottage, and Federation Square… All connected by a tram system that’s free within the inner city. A tour takes in many of the essentials, before you set out for Phillip Island to see the famous Little Penguin Parade. On your last full day in Australia, embark on a wildlife safari that takes you close to kangaroos, koalas, and native birds as they were meant to be seen, in the wild.
