Venture down the exotic waterways of the Amazon River. Search for red howler monkeys in the rainforest canopy, brave the waters alongside piranha and witness hundreds of parrots lick eroded clay walls.

This 4-day luxury cruise takes you through the wonders of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

The Anakonda Amazon River Cruise is the only luxury cruise liner in the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest. Its 18 suites, each with an area of 215-258 square feet, are equipped with air conditioning and 24-hour electricity, each with a private bathroom with hot water and all necessary amenities. To accommodate families, Anakonda offers four interconnected suites. Passengers can socialize in the dining room, bar, observation deck with an outdoor Jacuzzi, and in the al fresco lounge.

From Quito, fly to Coco and take a motorized canoe down the Amazon to where the Anakonda anchors on the river. As you move down the river, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the majesty of the Amazon. The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world and home to billions of organisms, from the towering canopy trees that sustain the wildlife to the monkeys and parrots that make the jungle so exotic. The Amazon River itself is possibly the longest river in the world and the primary source of water for the Atlantic Ocean.

At Panacocha, hike into the surrounding jungle to search for adorable squirrel monkeys. If you’re brave enough, swim in the waters alongside water monkey fish, white caiman and piranha—don’t believe the movies. Piranha are much less aggressive towards humans than advertised. Further on, you’ll see one of the best sites of the Ecuadorian Amazon: the Parrot clay licks. These eroded clay walls attract hundreds of colourful parrots to them, who lick the clay to digest antacids and antitoxins that counteract some of the dangerous nutrients of their diet.

This luxury cruise down the Ecuadorian Amazon allows you to witness the rainforest’s exotic animals and stunning landscape from the glamourous comforts of the Anakonda.

Itinerary

Day 1

Embark

Afternoon departure from Quito (a short 30-minutes flight) arriving at the city of Coca (Francisco de Orellana). Transfer to the Rio Napo port from where you will journey by motorized canoe downstream (ninety minutes) to board the M/V Anakonda, all the while observing the ever-changing forest-clad riverbanks of the silty-brown headwaters of the Amazon River.

Soon after boarding, the M/V Anakonda will start navigating downstream, a great opportunity for observing from the sundeck the amazing flora and fauna of the region. After dinner, enjoy an optional nocturnal walk into the forest to discover the mysteries of this unique environment and see how life emerges in the dark right before your eyes.

Meal Plan Dinner
Day 2

Panacocha Biological Corridor

Continue navigating downstream to the Panayacu River Delta. Take a canoe trip up the river to experience the sights of this fascinating reserve. Seek out Pink River Dolphins, Common Squirrel Monkeys and much more. Panacocha (Piranha Lake, in Quechua) is an ecosystem flooded by white waters. The rivers and lakes here are the perfect habitat for the infamous Piranha, as well as the Water Monkey Fish (Arawana) and White Caiman. After a refreshing swim (for the courageous!), enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ meal and refreshing beverages at a nearby camping site. In the afternoon, head out on exploration trails, and return onboard for dinner.

Day 3

Kury Muyu and Parrot Clay Lick

Breakfast served on board. After breakfast, enjoy a cultural encounter with the locals. Spend some time at one of the forest communities to learn about their everyday lives. Take advantage of this visit to shop for local handcrafts and souvenirs. Later, head over to the Parrot Clay licks, a great place to witness one of the most exciting wildlife spectacles in Amazonia.

After lunch, explore one of the local jungle trails as you head to a most unique water museum, where you will learn about many of the creatures that inhabit this environment. After the visit, conditions permitting, paddle your way downstream back to the Napo and enjoy more opportunities to observe wildlife.
