Venture down the exotic waterways of the Amazon River. Walk along a suspended boardwalk to search for red howler monkeys in the rainforest canopy, witness hundreds of parrots lick eroded clay walls and spend a night beneath the Amazonian stars during a glamping excursion.

This 5-day luxury cruise takes you through the wonders of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

The Anakonda Amazon River Cruise is the only luxury cruise liner in the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest. Its 18 suites, each with an area of 215-258 square feet, are equipped with air conditioning and 24-hour electricity, each with a private bathroom with hot water and all necessary amenities. To accommodate families, Anakonda offers four interconnected suites. Passengers can socialize in the dining room, bar, observation deck with an outdoor Jacuzzi, and in the al fresco lounge. Guests also have the change to go “glamping”—luxury overnight camping in the Amazon!

From Quito, fly to Coco and take a motorized canoe down the Amazon to where the Anakonda anchors on the river. As you move down the river, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the majesty of the Amazon. The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world and home to billions of organisms, from the towering canopy trees that sustain the wildlife to the monkeys and parrots that make the jungle so exotic. The Amazon River itself is possibly the longest river in the world and the primary source of water for the Atlantic Ocean.

At Panacocha, hike into the surrounding jungle to search for adorable squirrel monkeys. If you’re brave enough, swim in the waters alongside water monkey fish, white caiman and piranha—don’t believe the movies. Piranha are much less aggressive towards humans than advertised. Further on, you’ll observe the morete palm forests and swamp jungles from the safe vantage point of a hanging boardwalk. You’ll also have the opportunity to go “glamping” overnight, enjoying all the wild surroundings and natural pleasures of camping without sacrificing the glamour of luxury accommodation.

As your cruise winds down, you’ll see one of the best sites of the Ecuadorian Amazon: the Parrot clay licks. These eroded clay walls attract hundreds of colourful parrots to them, who lick the clay to digest antacids and antitoxins that counteract some of the dangerous nutrients of their diet.

This luxury cruise down the Ecuadorian Amazon allows you to witness the rainforest’s exotic animals and stunning landscape from the glamourous comforts of the Anakonda.

Day 1

Afternoon departure from Quito (a short 30-minutes flight) arriving at the city of Coca (Francisco de Orellana). Transfer to the Rio Napo port from where you will journey by motorized canoe downstream (ninety minutes) to board the M/V Anakonda, all the while observing the ever-changing forest-clad riverbanks of the silty-brown headwaters of the Amazon River.

Soon after boarding, the M/V Anakonda will start navigating downstream, a great opportunity for observing from the sundeck the amazing flora and fauna of the region. After dinner, enjoy an optional nocturnal walk into the forest to discover the mysteries of this unique environment and see how life emerges in the dark right before your eyes.

Day 2

Panacocha Biological Corridor

Continue navigating downstream to the Panayacu River Delta. Take a canoe trip up the river to experience the sights of this fascinating reserve. Seek out Pink River Dolphins, Common Squirrel Monkeys and much more. Panacocha (Piranha Lake, in Quechua) is an ecosystem flooded by white waters. The rivers and lakes here are the perfect habitat for the infamous Piranha, as well as the Water Monkey Fish (Arawana) and White Caiman. After a refreshing swim (for the courageous!), enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ meal and refreshing beverages at a nearby camping site. In the afternoon, head out on exploration trails, and return onboard for dinner.

Day 3

Flooded Forest and Monkey Island

This morning, explore a swamp forest from the comfort of a high rise board walk, a very good chance to discover the wildlife that frequents these Morete Palm Forests, where birds, primates and different aquatic creatures congregate. Afterwards, visit a local home where funerary urns from the XVII century have been discovered and excavated.

After lunch, and a short time to unwind as the Anakonda navigates upstream, spend some time exploring one of the large islands, where many surprises can be found.

For the more adventurous traveller, Glamping for the night is available (not included).

Day 4

Kury Muyo and Clay Licks

Breakfast is served on board. Later, enjoy a cultural encounter with a local community. Spend some time at one of the communities to learn about their everyday life. Here, you will be able to shop, a great opportunity to purchase local handcrafts. Later, head over to the Parrot Clay licks, where you have an opportunity to witness one of the most exciting wildlife spectacles in Amazonia.

In the afternoon, visit the Limoncocha Biological Reserve, an incredible natural reserve with over four hundred bird species. Search for Black Caiman after dusk. Evening return to the Anakonda.
