Day 1

Liberia

Transfer from Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia to Canon de la Vieja Adventure Lodge located at Rincon de la Vieja National Park area. Canon de La Vieja offers you the beautiful experience of a horseback ride across a Guanacaste prairie in the company of a true Sabanero cowboy. This tour can last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on your preference. You will be able to admire the beauty of the nearby Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and the view of its breath taking natural surroundings.

Day 2

Rincon de la Vieja National Park

Departing from the park's ranger station, this 8km/4.9mile trek will lead you to the active crater of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. The hike takes about 8 hours (4 hours to get there and 4 hours to get back) depending on the skill level of the hikers. The route explores 6 different types of vegetation that change with the elevation. Many animals, including Agouti (Guatuza), Coati (Pizote), spider monkeys, howler monkeys and an endless variety of birds, can be spotted.

Once you reach the foot of the volcano, the hike becomes more intense and exciting. You have to cross the last stretch before reaching the crater, which is a 300mts/984ft. trek along the thin edge of an incline with impressive views of Lake Nicaragua. It is not recommended to spend too much time here admiring the view since the gases emanating in the area can cause breathing problems.

To help you enjoy this exciting tour, Canon de la Vieja Lodge provides transportation as well as knowledgeable local guides who will help you out throughout the hike. A packed lunch can also be included (sandwich, fruit, cookie, and a bottle of water).

Day 3

Liberia to Canopy Tour to La Fortuna

The canopy has a total of 9 cables and 17 platforms which crisscross the canyon of the Colorado river. It offers an amazing view of the zone's nature in its course.

The zip lines range from 150mts. (492 feet) to 360mts (1181 feet) and 45 mts (147 feet) high. Just like in the other activities, special safety equipment is used, as well as expert guides making sure the experience is safe and enjoyable.

The trip lasts about 1.5 hrs. Recommended accessories for this trip are: shorts, sneakers, t-shirt and camera.

After this exiting adventure the lunch is waiting for you at the Lodge. Later, travel to La Fortuna where the famous Arenal Volcano is located. The transfer takes approximately 3.5 hours.

Day 4

Arenal

After having breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a walking tour to La Fortuna Waterfall. You will be picked up at the lobby of your hotel, around 8:00am, by a local representatives and be driven to La Fortuna Waterfall area. On your arrival, you will have to walk 500m into the forest to get to the waterfall, which is 70m high.

At the base of the waterfall there is a "natural pool" where you can swim in the fresh water of La Fortuna River for about one hour.

What to bring: Bathing suit, binoculars, camera, hiking shoes, long pants, raincoat and towel

In the afternoon, around 3:00pm, another local representative will pick you up and transfer you this time to Arenal Volcano National Park a for a 2hr long walking tour. In October 2010, Arenal Volcano entered into an indeterminate resting phase. For the time being, visitors will be unable to watch the much-loved explosions, although that could change within a matter of months or years. The tour begins with a walk (a physically moderate walk effort required) along the Los Tucanes, El Mirador and El Silencio trails. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, magnificent lava rock formations and the Arenal Lake. During the tour our guide will inform you about the history of the majestic mountain and the park.

After the walking tour, you will have the chance to relax and enjoy a healthy and relaxing soak at the hot springs of Tabacon Resort.

Day 5

Arenal to Flamingo Beach

After breakfast, enjoy more leisure time before a noon transfer to the Papagayo Gulf and the Barcelo Tambor Beach.

After breakfast included at the hotel, you will first stop at Arenal Hanging Bridges for a Natural Walking tour and then continue to Flamingo Beach Area.

Flamingo has all the amenities of a Costa Rican beach town: surf, sand and sun.
