Cruising the Galapagos: Celebrity Xperience

8 Days
Prices From:
US$ 7,729

A Galapagos cruise is a life-changing adventure. This trip aboard the luxurious Celebrity Xperience includes a comprehensive itinerary, visiting the most diverse and beautiful islands of the Galapagos.

This 8-day Galapagos Islands cruise lets you experience one of the world’s most unique eco-systems in style and unparalleled comfort.

Settle into your cabin, enjoying a welcome dinner and briefing to get you ready for the next five days. You’ll set out from North Seymour, which gets your wildlife spotting off to a great start, being home to frigates, iguanas, sea lions, and the famous blue-footed boobies. Then sail on to South Plaza Island the following morning for a land excursion through the Opuntia cacti forest. This is also home to one of the largest sea lion populations in the Galapagos. The Islands’ unique birdlife also keeps you company until you go on to Santa Fe, where you’ll encounter more endemic species including Galapagos hawks.

Be ready for an active day on San Cristobal, including a rewarding hike, and opportunities for snorkeling and kayaking. Then walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin himself when you explore Cerro Brujo, the first Galapagos coast on which the naturalist landed, and home to more sea lions. The following day, sail to Floreana, one of the archipelago’s most historically noteworthy islands thanks to its history of early settlement. Explorers, whalers, and pirates have all left their mark on Floreana, and even today, you can try dropping a letter in the barrel at Post Office Bay. There’s a good chance it’ll be delivered! After lunch, sail for Cormorant Point, where you can admire flocks of Flamingos and pintail ducks, before snorkeling at Champion Islet.

Your last full day in the Galapagos takes you to the outer islands, including Elizabeth Bay, home to a mangrove forest that supports sea turtles, rays, penguins, boobies, and many other species. Just to the southwest lies Moreno Point, which showcases some of the volcanic forces that have shaped the Galapagos over centuries and allowed this ecosystem to thrive. Spot sea turtles and white-tip sharks, before a panga ride takes you in for a close look at the shore-dwelling species.

Return to Charles Darwin Research Station before you depart, for an insight into the conservation work being done here.

The M/V Celebrity Xperience is an outstanding expedition vessel that offers guests a memorable cruise to the Enchanted Islands. On board passengers can enjoy impressive open-air spaces, comfortable cabins, and delicious meals at the al fresco. The unrivalled itineraries include spectacular land and water activities, led by selected naturalist guides who further enhance the Galapagos adventure.

Since September 2013 the M/V Celebrity Xperience has gone through a planned renovation process leading up to an elegant interior design. Public areas and cabins have a fresh look that attracts attention to detail with high-quality materials, textiles and furniture. The 24 spaced Staterooms accommodate up to 48 passengers half of the number of rooms usually found on a ship this size. There are a variety of Staterooms but all of them have ocean views; guests can enjoy the ample cabin size of a larger vessel, whilst preserving the atmosphere and exclusivity of a smaller yacht.

There are many wonderful and diverse sites to visit including Post Office Bay and the "Baroness's Viewing Point". Marine life also abounds in Floreana's coastal regions making it a fantastic site for snorkeling. Flamingos also populate the island and may be seen during your visit.

The Baroness's Viewing Point is the perfect place to take in the special scenery that defines Floreana, and a great spot to learn about the mysteries of Floreana's early settlers.

Difficulty level: Moderate (uphill)

In the 18th century whalers passing through the islands placed a wooden barrel on Floreana Island for use as an unofficial mail box. The tradition continues today as visitors leave addressed postcards in the barrel and sort through left mail to deliver at home. This is one of the archipelago's most famous spots. Don't forget to look in your logbook for your postcards! For the more adventurous, there is an option for a visit inside a lava tunnel. This tunnel has been kept untouched and completely natural, so please, watch your step!

Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate

A great site for bird-watching, Cormorant Point has a large lagoon where everything from Flamingos to Stilts and Pintail Ducks tend to roam. Don't forget your binoculars! Prior to the excursions, you will also have an opportunity to participate in a magnificent snorkel at Champion Islet.

Difficulty level: Easy

Punta Suarez is one of the most popular and attractive sites in the Galapagos. Due to its isolation from other islands, it has a high proportion of endemic fauna. A few steps inland from the landing site, groups of Espanola marine iguanas bask in the sun. Further inland, Nazca and blue-footed boobies nest near the trail, Galapagos doves peck around unaware of visitors and finches go about their day to day business. The trail continues towards a blowhole, which is a fissure in the lava where water spurts high into the air like a geyser. The cracks in the cliffs are home to swallow-tailed gulls and red-billed tropicbirds. Further up the cliff in an area of low-lying trees you will find waved albatrosses nesting. The 15,000 to 17,000 pairs of albatrosses on Espanola represent almost the entire population of this species on the planet. They perform one of the most spectacular courtship rituals of the animal world.
