Highlights of Argentina: Tango & Ice

You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a city tour of Buenos Aires.

You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 2:00PM (times subject to change). This is the perfect tour to discover the charm of Argentina's capital, from the chic districts of Recoleta and Palermo, to historic Plaza de Mayo, and architectural icons such as the Colon opera house, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the palace of Congress. The program finishes in old town San Telmo, home of the city's aristocracy until the late 19th century; Caminito street, in La Boca, the colorful shelter for Italian immigrants by the Riachuelo, and the young thriving restaurant scene at the Puerto Madero waterfront. Return to your hotel.

After the Amazonia, the Parana Delta is the most important delta in South America. Green and rich in rivers and creeks, this gorgeous natural reserve is located barely 30 km. from the city of Buenos Aires. This tour first sails on the Rio de la Plata to reach the suburb of San Isidro and visit its magnificent 1897 neogothic cathedral, the theater, and the public library. The trip goes on to Tigre's fluvial station, to sail the rivers and canals between a thousand little islands covered with ceibo trees and an amazing biodiversity. Return to your hotel late afternoon.

After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for your flight (not included in the trip price) to El Calafate in Patagonia. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel. After you have checked in enjoy a 4x4 Off-road tour.

We start the 4x4 trip from Estancia Alice and ascend Mount Frias, for trails with views of the main body of the Argentino Lake. After twenty minutes, we stop at a viewing point 450 meters above the lake with views to the Centinela river valley. We continue to the second viewing point at 1030 meters with incredible views of Torres del Paine in the distance - and in Chile, the Southern and Northern channels of the Argentino Lake, the highest peaks of the Patagonia area of the Andes mountain chain and Fitz Roy mountain - weather dependent. We continue the 4x4 adventure descending the Frias Mount through the lengas forest on the east slope of the mountain before finishing back at Estancia Alice. Return to El Calafate late afternoon.

An early start takes you to one of the largest and the only advancing glacier in the world, as well as the biggest attraction at Los Glaciares National Park, a 600,000-hectare protected area covered by an ice mantle. We will start by penetrating the Patagonic Andean forest and make a first breath-taking stop at "Curva de los Suspiros" (Curve of Sighs), where we will enjoy a first view of this incredible natural wonder. When we approach the glacier, we will walk down the catwalks to approach the Glacier and admire from different panoramic points this wonderful creation of Mother Nature.

If luck is with you, you will see parts of the wall of ice "calve" off and fall into the lake. The Perito Moreno Glacier is an enormous glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Argentina due to its size and accessibility. It is less than two hours by bus from El Calafate while viewing platforms and trails make the visit and the observation easy and pleasant.

Los Glaciares was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1981 and since then the glacier has only increased in popularity, regularly making the news when another ice bridge forms and collapses. The glacier is also part of the Southern Patagonian ice field, which is the third largest frozen body of fresh water in the world. This day will be an unforgettable experience, a once in a lifetime delight.

Part of the adventure will include a short cruise near the face of the glacier. This tour departs daily from Puerto Moreno, by the National Park's trails at the Iceberg's Channel. From that point, the tour boat navigates close - but not too close - to the glacier's North wall where you can admire its size.

Return to Calafate.

You are then transferred to the airport for your return flight (not included in the trip price) to Buenos Aires. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel. Some free time before heading out to a true Argentine cultural event - the Tango.
