Machu Picchu Express

Duration
2 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,120

With limited time, the Inca archaeological site of Machu Picchu can be enjoyed with this tour which starts from and returns to Cusco. An overnight is included close to the site at Aguas Calientes.

Machu Picchu is situated on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley which is 80 kilometres/50 miles northwest of Cuzco. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for an Incan Emperor around 1450 but abandoned a Century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. It is the most familiar icon of the Inca civilization. Although known locally, it was not known to the Spanish during the Colonial period and remained unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian, Hiram Bingham.

Your tour begins in Cusco where you will be transferred by road to the railway station at Ollantaytambo in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Here you will board the Vistadome train for a ride through the Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes situated in the valley below the ruins. On arrival, you will be taken to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu in order to enjoy a guided tour. After lunch, you will return to Aguas Calientes for overnight.

Return the following morning via the Expedition train heading to Ollantaytambo for your road connection to Cusco.

Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Today, you are met at Lima port and transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco (flight not included unles purchases and shown as a separate item on the itinerary).

On arrival in Cusco you will be met at the airport and transferred by road to the train station at Ollyantaytambo in the heart of the Sacred Valley where you board the Vistadome train for the ride through the Urubamba valley to Aguas Calientes and the 'Lost City of the Incas,' Machu Picchu.

Lunch is at the Orient Express' Sanctuary Lodge located just a few steps from the Inca citadel. Late afternoon you return by bus to Aguas Calientes for the night.
