This 4-day Ecuador vacation takes you to a wildlife reserve in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest.

Your Ecuador tour begins in the capital, Quito, where you’ll head to the airport and connect to Coca, a jungle town in the east of the country. Board a motorized canoe and venture down the Napo River, spotting kingfishers and herons in the branches along the shoreline. After boarding paddle canoes, you’ll arrive at the Napo Wildlife Center Ecolodge, a luxury jungle lodge sitting on the banks of Anangu Lake. This 4-star lodge lies in Yasuni National Park in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon and is owned and operated by members of the local Kichwa Anangu community.

Staying in one of the lodge’s 16 luxury cabins, you’ll embark on day trips to explore the jungle. On one day, you’ll visit multiple clay licks to experience the unforgettable sight of parrots, macaws, and parakeets licking at a mineral deposit on the forest floor. You’ll also visit the nearby Kichwa Anangu community to meet the jungle’s Indigenous inhabitants and learn about its ancient traditions. The next day, climb the Canopy Observation Tower to penetrate the jungle canopy and see the flurry of birds that live within its dense leaves. In the afternoon, venture deep into the jungle to spot golden mantle tamarin monkeys and skirt the banks of black-water Anangu Lake to see fish, snakes, and, most importantly, giant otters. At the end of your Amazon vacation, return to Quito to continue your onward journey.

The tower is about 30 minutes from the lodge. This wooden platform was built just next a huge and ancient Kapok tree. To get to the top, you have to pass through different levels of the forest. Then, when you are finally at the summit, the immensity and beauty of the Amazon jungle opens up before you.

There are not enough words to describe it, you have to witness it yourself! Birds that are just virtually impossible to see from the jungle floor will pass right above you. Flocks of vibrantly colored tanagers, blue-and-yellow macaws and large toucans fly past in the early mornings and afternoons. After lunch back in the Napo Wildlife Center, go deep into the forest to discover the beautiful and mysterious wildlife that hides in the forest interior.

There are possibilities to see lizards, different species of monkeys such as the endemic Golden Mantle Tamarin monkey, rare and unique insects and even some scary snakes!
