The Nazca Lines, Luxurious Paracas & the Amazon

Duration
11 Days
Prices From:
US$ 4,989

DELUXE | TAILOR-MADE: Discover another side of Peru on this journey from Lima to Paracas and the Amazon rainforest. Start in Lima, where you’ll delve into its trendy distrists and culinary scene. Connect to Paracas to fly over the Nazca Lines and cruise the Ballestas Islands. End your trip exploring the Peruvian Amazon in the nation’s north.

This 11-day Peru vacation takes you to Lima, Paracas, and Puerto Maldonado to fly over the Nazca Lines and explore the Amazon rainforest. It features deluxe accommodations and a mix of shared and private tours.

Your trip to Peru begins in Lima, the Peruvian capital, where you’ll explore the trendy districts of Miraflores and Barranco on a cycling tour. Ride you bike along the green coastal cliffs of Miraflores and visit the Gaudi-inspired Parque del Amor before you connect to Barranco, the bohemian heart of the city that’s awash with art galleries, cafes, and an undeniably eclectic atmosphere. Another day, a culinary experience will take you to a local market to learn about local fruits and seafood. Then head to a nearby restaurant for a culinary lesson on two Peruvian icons, pisco sour and ceviche, which includes lunch.

Connect south along the coastline to Paracos, where you’ll board a flight over the Nazca Desert to see the enigmatic Nazca Lines. These massive geoglyphs were carved into the earth centuries ago and their intricate designs of mammals, flowers, and stars are only visible from high above. Gaze upon the Nazca Lines and ponder their meaning before returning to Paracas. Join a champagne boat tour to the nearby Ballestas Islands, known as some of the most biodiverse islands along the South American coastline. You’ll spot sea lions, penguins, and guano birds as you sip champagne before you swing by the coastal cliffs to see El Candelabro, an elaborate candlestick geoglyph carved into the coastal rock. Cap off your time in Paracas with a trip to Quierolo Vineyard where you’ll enjoy lunch and a tasting of Peru’s famous brandy, pisco.

Head back to Lima for a night before continuing north to Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon Basin. Staying at the 4-star lodge Inkaterra Reserve Amazonica, you’ll spend two full days in the Amazon rainforest. There are a variety of activities available to you at your lodge. Head on a river excursion at twilight to see animals in the midst of the hunt and nocturnal critters rising from their slumber. Explore nearby Lake Sandoval or Gamitana Creek, walk along the canopy boardwalk to spot birds and monkeys high in the forest, or track the mighty anaconda, the world’s largest snake. Soak in the beauty at the Inkaterra Butterfly House or learn about Indigenous cultures at a nearby village.

At the end of your stay, you’ll connect back to Puerto Maldonado for onward travels.

Nazca Lines Flight

Stretching across the Nazca Desert, the story behind these ancient geoglyphs continues to baffle researchers and intrigue travellers today. Created by the simple rearranging of desert rocks, the lines form a wide variety of geometric patterns and animal shapes up to 200 metres wide. Was their function agricultural? Spiritual? Astronomical? Or could they be markers left by ancient aliens? Develop your own theories as you spend 2 days exploring this amazing plateau. A flight over the Desert gives you the perfect view of the monkey, the spider, the hummingbird and others. Flying over the Nazca Desert you can marvel looking at the perfect shape of a monkey, a spider, a whale, a lizard and various types of birds, including humming birds, sea birds, and the mighty Andean Condor.
