Nazca Experience

Duration
2 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,320

Witness the Nazca Lines as well as the Ballestas Islands. See where the desert and the sea come together in spectacular landscapes in Paracas that are teeming with wildlife.

Stretching across the Nazca Desert, the story behind these ancient geoglyphs continues to baffle researchers and intrigue travellers today. Created by the simple rearranging of desert rocks, the lines form a wide variety of geometric patterns and animal shapes up to 200 metres wide. Was their function agricultural? Spiritual? Astronomical? Or could they be markers left by ancient aliens? Develop your own theories as you spend 2 days exploring this amazing plateau. A flight over the Desert gives you the perfect view of the monkey, the spider, the hummingbird and others.

Your second day is devoted to the Ballestas Islands, home to an impressive range of wildlife including Blue-footed Boobies, Humboldt Penguins and a variety of seals, plus El Candelabro, a mysterious geoglyph not unlike the Nazca Lines, that may have been a landmark for sailors.

Day 1

Lima to Ica to Nazca Lines to Paracas

Early this morning, transfer from your Lima hotel to Ica on the Peruvian Coast from where you will then board a light aircraft for your flight over the Nazca Lines.

Scattered over 500 square kilometers on an arid plateau between the Nazca River and Ingenio River, exist huge representations of geometric patterns, animals, humans figures and thousands of perfectly straight lines that go on for kilometers. The images on the ground are so huge, that the only way to fully observe them is only from the sky which is where you will find yourself.

Flying over the Nazca Desert you can marvel looking at the perfect shape of a monkey, a spider, a while, a lizard and various types of birds, including humming birds, sea birds, and the mighty Andean Condor. After the flight, transfer to Paracas and your hotel.

Day 2

Paracas to Ballestas Islands to Lima

Paracas is a spa, a peninsula, a bay, a pre Inca Culture and a National Reserve. It is amazing for birdwatchers and hikers. The desert and the sea come together in spectacular landscapes in Paracas and the cliffs that fringe the beaches are teeming with life.

Enjoy a boat journey from Paracas to the Ballestas Islands passing the "Candelabro", the famous three pronged candelabra carved into the sand with a similar technique to the Nazca Lines. These lines, however, are possibly of a different origin, with some speculating that they are from pirates marking a treasure hiding place to soldiers fighting for Latin American independence from Spain.

These spectacular islands, eroded into many caves and arches, provide shelter for thousands of seabirds and hundreds of sea lions. In the sea it is possible to encounter dolphins and even whales.

After a day of nature exploration you return to Lima, where you will be transferred back to your hotel or to the airport for your onward journey.
