This 15-day cruise takes you to the highlights of coastal Central America by passing through the Panama Canal.

The voyage begins in Los Angeles, the “City of Angels.” This sprawling city boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year and is the world’s capital for film and television. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of a Hollywood studio to see how the movies are made. Stroll down Hollywood Boulevard and see if you can spot a celebrity. Feel like a kid by heading to Disneyland or Universal Studios or simply enjoy the sand of the city’s many beaches before embarking on the Norwegian Sun.

The Norwegian Sun is a massive ocean liner boasting 14 dining options, 12 bars and lounges, hot tubs, a spa, theatre, casino, and that’s not even mentioning the comfortable staterooms that’ll serve as your home onboard. The vessel is ideally-equipped to sail you across the sea in maximum comfort.

From Los Angeles sail to Cabos San Lucas on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. This resort city is famous for sport fishing and its massive main beach, Playa El Medano. Trek down the tip of the peninsula to see El Arco or The Arch, the rock formation that sits at the tip of the “Land’s End.” Further down the coast is Acapulco, which used to be the Mexican highlight of the “Jet Set” of the fifties and sixties. Celebrities like Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra vacationed here during that time. While tourism has dipped in recent years, the city remains a safe and vibrant beach destination. Siesta on the gorgeous beaches and visit the seventeenth century Spanish fort.

Puerto Quetzal is a hub city in Guatemala. Photograph the nearby volcanoes that loom over the port before heading inland to La Antigua, one of the premier colonial sites in Central America. La Antigua was the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala that flourished during the seventeenth century. Visit Iglesia de La Merced, the baroque yellow and white church that’s an icon of the city and see the massive reconstructed Captain General Palace. Further south is San Juan del Sur, a coastal port in Nicaragua. Victorian houses dot the hillside that is crowned by the statue of Christ of the Mercy. Catch a wave at world-class surfing breaks or relax alongside locals on the splendid beaches.

Last port of call in the Pacific is Puntarenas in Costa Rica. This brightly-coloured harbour city is often the launching pad for ritzier nearby destinations. Take a guided tour of the Carara Tropical Rainforest with a local guide or explore the capital, San Jose. Then sail through the Panama Canal, possibly the world’s greatest engineering feat. It’s a 77-kilometre waterway connecting the Pacific to the Atlantic through the heart of Panama. Pass through this wonder of human design aboard the Norwegian Sun and marvel at what humanity has been able to accomplish.

Cartagena is the coastal jewel of Columbia. With its tropical climate and lavish beaches, Cartagena is the top destination for vacationers within Columbia. But it’s more than an ocean-side city for the rich. Its colonial-style buildings from the sixteenth century also make it a historical treasure. Stroll through the Old Town to glimpse the city’s preserved historical beauty. Walk the old city walls that defended Cartagena in the colonial era and visit the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, a massive fortress from that time.

Disembark in Miami, the “Magic City.” The city is a glamourous centre of fashion and design. Stroll through South Beach to see the art deco facades and lavish nightclubs before shedding your shoes and feeling the white sand between your toes at the city’s exquisite beaches. Be sure to visit Little Havana and soak in the Cuban atmosphere.

This relaxing cruise along the coasts of Central America offers a bounty of white-sand beaches and crystal-blue waters ideal for any vacationer.
