Day 2

Lima

After breakfast you will begin your tour of Lima. Visit the Historical Center: Plaza Mayor ("Main Square"), the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the City Hall and old streets with colonial mansions and Moorish balconies. You will also visit one a historic convent, an icon of colonial architecture.

Then stop at The Cordano Bar, which is one of the oldest traditional bars located in the historic center of Lima.

You will continue onto the modern district of San Isidro and Miraflores where Huacas or Sacred Inca structures dot the downtown area. Tonight you dine at the Huaca Pucllana restaurant. Located within the ruins of Huaca Pucllana, an archaeological compound built between 200 and 700 AD by the early inhabitants of Lima the restaurant is illuminated by night sky offering some amazing views as you dine under the covered terrace. The cuisine is a reinterpretation of the Peruvian Criollo tradition and as a combination of local flavours and ingredients using contemporary techniques.

Day 3

Lima

Today you visit one of Lima's symbolic markets to see the amazing variety of fish, fruit, and vegetables used in Peruvian food. You will be equipped with a list of names and descriptions of foods you will encounter to help appreciate the visit even more. Then watch and learn as chefs from famous local restaurants demonstrate how to prepare Peru's most famous dishes. Learn how to make an exquisite ceviche or famous Lomo Saltado (sauteed tenderloin strips and French fries). Rounding out this culinary experience is a delicious lunch.

The afternoon is free to prepare for another sumptuous tasters menu meal at the Amor Amar restaurant.

Located in the trendy, Bohemian district of Barranco, Amor Amar is situated on the grounds of a converted courtyard, behind a large wall. The decor of Amor Amar is an appealing mix of contemporary style and an open-air atmosphere with a touch of nature. The more interesting part of the menu are the other dishes; the several dozen original plates and appetizers that showcase Sacilotto's range that dabbles in southeast Asia, the Mediterranean, and Argentinean gauchos. There's Duck Magret served with an Aji Amarillo risotto. The underutilized and delicious Charela, a seabass from the north of Peru, is found throughout the menu. A wood-burning oven that slow roasts suckling goat and lamb. Desserts are a strong point here. There are house made ice creams and sorbets of mostly native flavors.

Day 4

Lima to Cusco

Today you are transferred to the airport for your flight up and into the Andes and Cusco. On arrival into Cusco you will check into your hotel before beginning your city tour.

Today's excursion is an incredible trip into the past as you will tour some of the nearby archeological sites. Start off at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built of enormous stone blocks expertly shaped by the Incas. It is strategically located at the top of a hill overlooking the city of Cusco. What a view of the city! Then, it's off to Qenko, which means labyrinth, and where the sun, the moon, and the stars were worshipped. Afterwards, it's Puca Pucara, which might have served as an inn where the Incan emperor and his entourage would have rested and lodged for the night. The last set of ruins is at Tambomachay, where important water veneration rites may have been carried out.

Cooking Class at Limo Restaurant

Take part in a cooking demonstration in Limo Restaurant, located in a typical colonial style house with a privileged view of the Plaza de Armas de Cusco (Cusco Square). You will learn how to prepare exotic cocktails with pisco, a traditional Peruvian brandy, as well as an entrée and a main dish using local ingredients. Afterwards, you will be able to enjoy a delicious lunch in the restaurant.

Nearby is the town of Maras and you will visit its salt pans where the finest salt in the world is extracted? You will now travel to Moray and tour the enormous circular and semi-circular agricultural terraces built into the top of a hill overlooking the Urubamba Valley and used by the Incas as a botanical laboratory.

Day 7

Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes

Today board the Vistadome Train for the ride through the Sacred Valley of Urubamba to the "Lost City of the Incas," Machu Picchu. Perched 8, 200 feet above the valley, it was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until discovered by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Inca "Virgins of the Sun" took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here.

You arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes where you are met and transferred for your bus journey from the valley floor up to the entrance of the ruins in Machu Picchu. Your bags will be taken to your hotel of choice in Aguas Calientes. After passing through the entrance of Machu Picchu enjoy a guided tour of the ruins.
When finished you return to Aguas Calientes at the base of the ruins by bus in the late afternoon where you collect your bags from your hotel, check in and then you are free to explore the many restaurants of this mountain village.
