Rio de Janeiro: Schooner Adventure Guanabara Bay
- Duration
- 6 Hours
- Prices:
- On request
View the magnificent harbor city of Rio from the sea on a Schooner adventure, and see the historical buildings and the forts that protected the Guanabara Bay.
Sail across Guanabara Bay, where in January 1502 the first Portuguese ship expedition entered and where Gaspar Lemos believed that he had discovered the mouth of a great river and named this bay "Rio de Janeiro" (January River). Guanabara Bay and in turn Rio, became a key coast port for expeditions heading from Europe into the Pacific Ocean, and was the last main stop before rounding the horn in southern South America.
During the journey you will pass the Ilha Fiscal, and the old fort of Santa Cruz and then go under the Rio-Niteroi bridge. Once in Niteroi you can admire from the boat, the Museum of Contemporary Art, reminiscent of an UFO, designed by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer.
You will also see the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, the Santos Dumont airport, and the three forts that were built to protect the city, the Sao Joao Fort, Lajes Fort and Santa Cruz Fort. You will come across the city of Niteroi, on the other side of the bridge side, from here you will have one of the best views of Rio de Janeiro. Take your time to take mental snapshots of beautiful Rio.
There is a bar onboard where you can buy caipirinhas and others alcoholic drinks or sodas and water.
