Spend 5 days trekking from Santa Marta to Ciudad Perdida. Along the way you’ll explore the beautiful wilderness of the Colombian forest, meet some of the native tribes including the Koguis, descended from the city’s original inhabitants. This mix of exploration and relaxation culminates in a chance to explore Ciudad Perdida in detail before your return to Santa Marta.

Santa Marta to Station 1
Depart by truck along the Panamerican Highway towards the north, then on an unpaved road to the settlement of Mamey. There, the mules will be loaded and the trekking will begin. The first hours will be spent walking up through a zone deforested by colonists to plant typical things like bananas and mandioc. On the way, you will have the opportunity to take a bath in the river El Machete. Arriving at an altitude of 600-metres, continue walking through places shaded by secondary forest, on your way to Station 1. There, hammocks will be hung up with its mosquito nets for the night and you will have the opportunity to take a bath in a nearby river before dinner.

Station 1 to Gabriel's House
After breakfast, start trekking through deep forest where, halfway through, the Indian reservation of the Koguis, descendants of the Tayronas, begins. You will pass through an Indian village and might have the opportunity to see some of the Indians and speak to them, as the village is only used for special meetings and is therefore usually almost empty. Inside the Indian reservation the overnight will be in bed at the house of the only colonist of the area, Gabriel. Before dinner, a magnificent bath can be enjoyed in Rio Buritaca.

Gabriel's House to Rumualdo's House
Today's journey will involve crossing the Rio Buritaca multiple times by swimming or just walking in the river. On the way, you can recognize spots removed by treasure hunters. Arrive at Rumualdo's house where you will spend the night.

The Lost City and the Return to Gabriel's House
Trek towards the Lost City by climbing the more than 2000 stone stairs built by the Tayronas.
Your morning will be dedicated to visiting the ruins of this spectacular city, discovered in 1976, and built by the Tayrona between 500 and 700 AD. Ciudad Perdida is the most important settlement of Tayrona culture. Located at the shore of Rio Buritaca, its axis is a wide stairway that begins at the river shore and continues on the crest of the mountain, branching to left and right into secondary paths that go towards the many dwelling terraces.
After this visit return to Gabriel's house, crossing the Rio Buritaca another several times and meeting Indians along the way.

Gabriel's House to the Mamey Population to Santa Marta
Your tour ends after you trek to the settlement of Mamey where a truck will be waiting to take you to Santa Marta.
