Venture into the heart of the Uyuni Salt Flats and stay at a first-class geodesic dome hotel. At Kachi Lodge, you’ll have a couple days to explore the flats, hike to the rim of Tupuna Volcano, and observe the night sky lit up in all its glory.
This 3-day Bolivian vacation takes you to the Uyuni Salt Flats. It features first-class accommodations, active tours, and is a great add-on to a longer journey through South America.
Your trip to Bolivia connects you to the Uyuni Salt Flats, the world’s largest salt flat and one of the flattest spots on the planet. Explore this magical landscape from the confines of the Kachi Lodge, a 4-star, eco-friendly collection of geodesic domes that offer all the comforts of a hotel with direct access to the salt flats. Your time here is your own to explore the salt flats. Venture to the nearby village of Coquesa to see the ancient mummies sheltered in a cave overlooking the village and the flats. Hike to the crater of Tunupa Volcano and gaze out over the stretches of white earth. Bike across the landscape and take advantage of the on-site telescopes in the evening to gaze upon the heavens. If you’re lucky enough to visit after a rainfall, you’ll witness the flats transform into a sea of stars, perfectly reflecting the sky above them.
At the end of your stay, connect to your onward destination, but consider adding a few days in Uyuni to explore the salt flats to their fullest.

On arrival in to Uyuni airport or bus station, please look for your local representative holding a sign with your name or that of Goway or Kachi Lodge.
You will be transferred to the lodge.
Kachi Lodge domes offer the comfort of a hotel room with a private bathroom, comfortable bedding, complimenting interior decoration and full heating. Inside the domes, a wooden screen has been mounted to protect the shower area, the ceramic washbasins and the restrooms.
Covered in soft beige carpet, the interior feels cozy; the double bed is centrally placed for maximum view of the slat flats. A wooden trunk is placed on the side of the bed to host lanterns, while light 3 wooden stools and a small ladder
compose a minimalist set-up around the central stove. The decor naturally embraces while at the same combats the cold nights.

Standing directly on the Uyuni Salt Flats,at an altitude of 3'600 m, at the foot of Tunupa Volcano, our luxury domes lodge is waiting for you. From a distance, the white pods look like a space station designed by Buckminsterfuller. The dome camp also has something of an observatory, or a folly built for a passionate astrophysicist! Composed of repeated equilateral triangles, their metallic structure is the very essence of mathematical elegance.

Choose from one of the included activities.
There are many options to make the best out of your experience
on the Salt Flats.
The one not to be missed is a hike in the morning to nearby island covered with giant cactus and offering amazing views on the Salt Flat. We usually prefer to avoid the Island of Inca Huasi, the most famous but very, very heavily trafficked.
An afternoon option is a visit to the charming village of Coquesa and its mummies sheltered in a cave 600mts / 2000ft over the village, again with beautiful views on the Salt Flats.
At about an hour drive away lies the interesting archaeological site of Alcaya, an old pre-colombian city near Salinas.
Enjoy an active hike to the lower lip of Tunupa volcano crater. (+/- 2 hrs)
Staying more "local" you can also borrow one of the mountain bikes and experience the flatness of the Salar around the camp.
At night, a telescope is at your disposal to observe the starry night of the Altiplano.
During the wet season, when the level of water allows it, enjoy a stand up paddle ride on the flooded Salar.

Late April to end of October
During the dry season, you will experience crystal clear skies, sunny weather...and cold temperatures at night (down to -15°C/5°F) The domes are heated. During the day temperature rises to about 12°C/50°F. Driving on the flats at that time of the year is easy
November/December till beginning of April
During the rain season, temperatures are much higher during the day and can reach 20°C/ 68°F with night temperatures reaching 0°C/32°F. Rain usually falls during thunderstorms at the end of the day. At that time of the year, with higher chances during January and February, you can experience the amazing mirror effect on the Salt Flats, when the flats are flooded with a few inches of water. It’s still possible to drive on the Salar at that time, but depending on the level of water, a longer route to access to Kachi Lodge from Uyuni and to some other sites may be required.
We would recommend you spend time at altitude to acclimatize before heading to Kachi Lodge so you can get the best out of your experience. There are no strenuous activities, so if you’re in acceptable physical condition, you’ll be all fine. Kachi Lodge provides medical oxygen bottles, masks and an inflatable hyperbaric chamber in case of an emergency.
Meals are a set menu. Dishes on offer are with local products only, we respect the seasonality of the products and the producers. We’ll be happy to cater to specific dietary requirements or allergies when possible. Tables settings offer a communal table for those who want to share their experience of the day at Kachi Lodge with other guests of 2 to 4 being seated separately for those preferring a more private atmosphere.
