Wonders of Bolivia

Duration
7 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,184

Landlocked in the heart of the Andes Mountains, Bolivia remains a well-kept secret. Often overshadowed by its neighbours, Bolivia is a traveller’s dream, with beautiful landscapes and a culture all its own. Take in the key sights over 7 days, from spectacular ruins to eerie salt lakes, and the world’s highest capital, La Paz

This 7-day first-class, small group tour invites you to uncover the delights of one of South America’s most colourful countries.

Spend your first night in Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, before going on to Lake Titicaca. Follow the Altiplano, passing through local villages until you reach Copacabana (no, not that one), on the lake’s shores. Pay your respects to the Virgen Morena for safe passage to the Island of the Sun, where you’ll see the Inca ruins of Pilkokaina, and spend the night. In the early morning, descend the ancient stairs to the Waters of the Eternal Youth (worth a shot, right?). Then visit the Chincana ruins and the Island of the Moon before returning to Copacabana.

Travel back to La Paz and spend the day exploring the capital. You may wish to take a city tour, visit the Witches Market, or the Valley of the Moon, or take a cable car ride over the city. The following day, board your flight for Uyuni, your gateway to the legendary Uyuni salt flats. Covering 12,000 square kilometres, the flats provide the surrounding region with a thriving economy, where salt is still extracted in the traditional way. You’ll visit an island in the middle of the flats, and see the Coquesa Mummies. Stargazing is also near unparalleled here with little or no light pollution.

Return to La Paz for one more night, with time at leisure to pick up any sights you’ve missed before departing the following day.

Day 2

Shores of Lake Titicaca - Copacabana - Sun Island

After breakfast you head off to the shores of Lake Titicaca. Climbing out of the valley in which La Paz sits, you drive along the Altiplano (high plains), through quaint Bolivian villages until you reach the Tiquina Straight -- a narrowing of the lake that needs to be crossed by small ferry for the traveler and barge for your vehicle.

After reaching the other side, you continue to Copacabana a pleasant town right on the shores of the lake.

A visit to its church and the famous "Virgen Morena". Is a must and if timing works out, you may see cars, trucks and buses being "blessed". From Copacabana, you travel by boat to the Island of the Sun where you will enjoy an Aptapi (typical lunch in the highlands). Then travel to the ruins of Pilkokaina an Inca temple before hiking to La Estancia offering a wonderful panoramic view of Lake Titicaca.

Tonight you spend on Sun Island on Lake Titicaca. An amazing spot located in the southern part of the Island, the lodge was built utilizing traditional Andean architecture combined with modern comforts. The cabins are constructed with adobe brick and thatch roofs, and are set between pre-Inca terraces.

Day 5

Uyuni

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight (not include dint he trip price) to Uyuni in the heart of the world's largest Salt Lake. On arrival into Uyuni you begin your days adventure on the Salt Lake.

One of the greatest "natural wonders", the Uyuni salt flats are the biggest salts lakes in the world. 12,000 square kilometres of salt at an elevation of 12,000ft, create a truly unforgettable experience as the flats reflect the sapphire-blue Altiplano sky. Depart from Uyuni and drive to Colchani, a village on the shores of Uyuni Salt Flat where locals still extract salt in a traditional way. Next continue to Incahuasi Island, lost in the middle of the salt flat and covered with giant cactus. See the Coquesa Mummies before heading to Tahua.

Why not finish the day in style as the sun sets over the water covered lake with a Sunset Cocktail? Want more? Witness some of the clearest skies you will ever see. High altitudes equal thinner air. Uyuni and the Salt Lake being in the middle of almost nowhere offers little or no light pollution. This all comes together to offer a crystal-clear view to the skies! Enjoy an evening of star watching! Ask your expert for the details.
